TRAM firm TIE has said the ultimate decision on whether to lift August's embargo on tram construction work in the city centre lies with council chiefs.
The Evening News revealed yesterday some of Princes Street's big retailers were keen for tram works on the busy shopping street to continue through a planned August embargo in a bid to avoid any danger of their lucrative Christmas trade being hit by over-running works.

But that means the Festival Cavalcade would not be able to go ahead on its traditional route through the city centre.

Council chiefs have said no decision on the embargo will be made until the Princes Street closure, which begins this weekend, and associated traffic diversions have bedded in.

At least there will be a ready source of electrical power to run the cavalcade floats once the overhead power lines are in place.

Shame they won't be able to divert the trams to allow the cavalcade to proceed along Princes Street.

And it's goodbye to the Festival Fireworks and Edinburgh's Hogmanay as the street won't be closed to tram traffic.

TIE and the Council chiefs are all dumber than dirt. Are they completely blind to the fact that NOBODY wants the trams?

A lot of the anger against the trams is directed at the closure of streets. I may be missing something but doesn't a parade close streets too?

Trams - another great idea brought to you by Labour and the Lib dem spendthrift think tank !

I've been away for few weeks - how much are they over budget now ? Or is that being kept quiet for now !?

The
Retards
Are
Managing
Sickeningly

Can anyone see the TRAMS in that ?

Projects like TIE are the reason why public officials should be personally responsible for wasting taxpayers money - The Scottish Parliament and most city councils are more reckless with our money than the flippin' Bankers !
