A SHOPLIFTER who stole more than £200 worth of women's make-up was today jailed for two months.
Steven McNeill, 42, of Loganlea Avenue, Restalrig, admitted stealing 23 items of ladies cosmetics from Boots in Galashiels in December 2006.

Sally Clark, prosecuting, told Selkirk Sheriff Court that McNeill was spotted acting suspiciously and seen to approach the Max Factor counter where he picked up make-up valued at £224.

Defence agent Iain Burke said his client described shoplifting as "almost a compulsion."

He added: "He has an eight-year career of shoplifting and has been fined on numerous occasions and also received imprisonment."

Sheriff Kevin Drummond told McNeill: "All I can do is try to give shopkeepers a rest from you."
