THE house where Bonnie Prince Charlie held his war council before routing the Government army at the Battle of Prestonpans has been put up for sale.
The Young Pretender stayed at the cottage in Duddingston Village on September 19, 1745.

He gathered his Jacobite officers there to plan their next move – then two days later, on September 21, led the Highlanders as they killed and wounded more than 1000 redcoats at Prestonpans.

The overwhelming victory provided a huge morale boost to the Jacobites, who then progressed south as far as Derby.

The famous house, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie's Cottage, is expected to fetch more than £400,000.

A spokesman for sellers, Rettie, said the restored, semi-detached, cottage would ideally suit "someone with a strong sense of Scottish history".

He said: "It is well documented that this is the house where Bonnie Prince Charlie held council before the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745.

"The house dates back at the very latest to the early 18th century, but it has been thoroughly modernised and offers everything you would hope for in a home.

"It is for sale at offers over £365,000, but the obvious target is to achieve over £400,000."

Never knew there was a Butlins in Prestonpans in 1745.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, what ever will Edinburgh Council say when they learn that Midlothian has invaded and annexed Duddingston Village. Maybe they will point out to the hack, sadly lacking in geographical knowledge, that Duddingston is within the boundaries of the City of Edinburgh.
Presumably he/she is aware that Prestonpans is in East Lothian lest further errors are published.

I still don't believe it !,

#2 I think it's you that needs to sort yourself out. At no point does the atricle claim that Duddingston Village is in Prestonpans. The headline is perfectly clear. The use of "Prestonpans" in the headline relates to the battle of prestonpans, not the location of the house.

Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear you must do better.

#3. It's still a pretty bad headline all things considered!

Have looked at the schedule for this property. Old cottage on the outside - modern nightmare inside. Every single period feature has been ripped out. Less Olde Worlde, more like 1990's newbuild.
