IT started as a way to make some extra pocket money.
But five years on and teenager Fraser Doherty revealed how his jam business is close to making its first million after sealing his latest deal with a major supermarket.
And the enterprising 19-year-old will be celebrating by rubbing shoulders with the stars at the prestigious Britain's Best Awards at the weekend.
For Fraser, of Davidson's Mains, it is all a far cry from when he first began making his "Super Jams" at home and selling them door-to-door.
Made using his grandmother's recipe, his jams use super-foods like blueberries and ginger for their ingredients, but with grape juice instead of sugar to make them extra healthy.
Morrisons, Tesco and Waitrose are already stocking Fraser's jam, with Asda becoming the latest big name to sign up, and the incredible success has seen the former Royal High pupil give up on a business degree to work full-time at his company.
The hard work is certainly paying off, with his nomination for the glittering awards seeing him join celebrities from the worlds of TV, film and sport at a gala televised event in London.
The youngster, who has been put forward for the New Talent Award, is taking it all in his stride however, and admitted he was looking forward to meeting his competitors more than the celebrities.
"I heard a few weeks ago and it is quite exciting, although really I'm just amazed at the company I'll be in," he said.
"It will be nice to be at a big celebrity party, and I'll be taking a few friends down, but mainly I'm looking forward to meeting the other finalists.
"The business is going really well, and it's just continuing to grow. We're now in Morrisons and I think we're about to start stocking in Asda, and a lot of smaller independent retailers have also taken up orders.
"It's not a million-pound business yet, but it's pretty close."
While the guest list for the exclusive awards show has yet to be announced, previous years have seen stars such as Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ralph Fiennes and David Beckham turn out.
Fraser will be up against a 14-year-old champion diver, a ballet dancer, a junior world triathlete, and 18-year-old film and television star Nicholas Hoult for the New Talent Award.
As he prepared to head down to London for filming of the ITV awards show, Fraser admitted he was still surprised at his success.
"I'm always amazed at how far it's come, although it has been a lot of hard work," he said.
"I have done a lot of talks in schools and universities, and my story has been used in textbooks for business studies, while students often get in touch to say they want to use me as a case study.
"It is great to think that what I've done is helping to encourage more people to get involved in business."
The award is voted for by the public, and Ron Hewitt, chairman of Edinburgh's Chamber of Commerce, urged people to get behind Fraser.
"He is a great example to young people that they can achieve whatever they want to if they put their mind to it," he said.
