EIGHT bottles of alcohol, three Hibs ties and a box of Thornton's chocolates are among the gifts received by Edinburgh's Lord Provost over the past year.
Councillor George Grubb also received scarves, a kite, a wooden fruit bowl, a tin can, caviar, a passport cover and several books.
The list of gifts was revealed to the Evening News following a freedom of information request.
The alcohol inclu
ded a bottle of whisky from the Indian Consulate, a bottle of vodka from the Russian ambassador and a bottle of whisky from Labour MP Nigel Griffiths.
At a civic reception to mark Hibs' CIS Cup success last year, Cllr Grubb was handed a silver plate, two pendants, six mini- goblets, chocolates, whisky and three ties by the club. The Pakistan Society gave the Provost a box of chocolates from Thornton's.
The wooden fruit bowl came from a Malawi delegation and the tin can was presented by the Chinese Consul.
The passport cover came from the Irish Consul at a St Patrick's Day breakfast.
A council spokeswoman said: "The civic gifts received by all Lord Provosts are put on display in the City Chambers and remain as gifts to the city.
"However, the consumable gifts – those which clearly can't be kept for long periods of time – are used by the Lord Provosts and their official visitors."
