Off-licences in move to fight youth drinking

A DATABASE of adults who buy alcohol for underage youths is set to be created in a Lothian town.
Off-sales licences in Dunbar, East Lothian, have banded together to create a new forum to tackle underage drinking.

The members will pass on information about people they believe are buying alcohol for youngsters to police, including CCTV images of the suspects.

The licensees will also collect information on youths who try to buy drink in a bid to cut antisocial behaviour.

East Lothian's Provost, Councillor Sheena Richardson, said: "This forum will provide a positive environment to develop shared solutions to problems with drink-fuelled antisocial behaviour."

East Lothian police commander, Superintendent Murdo MacIver, said: "The support and co-operation of all members of the licensing trade is vital."

How about finding out the reasons why the kids choose to get blitzed in the parks and addressing them?

Everyone thinks that computers are the solution to all problems---a "database" indeed. It will have no effect whatsoever.

Address the CAUSE of the kids drinking and you will solve the problem.

i wonder how much support and co-operation the off-licence's will get when the first libel case comes to court
