A MAN has died after being hit by a lorry while walking on the A1 in East Lothian yesterday.
The lorry was travelling along the A1 on the southbound carriageway between the Tranent and Bankton junctions at 12.35pm when it hit 39-year-old Robert Gordon McMillan from Ormiston, East Lothian. He is believed to have been on foot on the carriageway.

The lorry stopped immediately and waited while officers carried out an investigation of the scene.

The southbound carriageway of the A1 was closed for two and a half hours while accident investigations were carried out.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A police spokesman said: "This has been a tragic incident, and we are now looking for people to come forward to help us piece together exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the incident.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area, and witnessed what happened to help with our enquiries."

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
