A £1.6 million veterinary surgery and canine rehabilitation centre is to be created in Haddington after plans were give the go-ahead by the local council.
The new surgery will be built by the Links Veterinary Group, which wants to vacate its existing premises in the town centre to move to the new facility, which will be built at Haldane Avenue, on the outskirts of the town.

The plans were approved despite concerns from local residents and the local community council about the effect of noise from the surgery on nearby houses.

It is hoped construction can start later this year, with the site due to be completed by May 2009.
