A LOTHIANS council has spent almost £100,000 on equalities projects in the last two years, it has emerged.
Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information act show that East Lothian Council has spent slightly more than £91,000 on a variety of projects in the two years up to June 2008.
Among the costs incurred are the hiring of an equality officer in October 2006 which has cost £29,000. A project called Disabled Go Project launched two months ago also cost the local authority around £30,000.
Race equality schemes notched up more than £11,000 of the total costs, but only £120 was spent specifically on gender equality.
A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council said: "We are strongly committed to equality and diversity and seek to deliver inclusive services to all members of East Lothian's community. We have a number of equality and diversity initiatives in place."
