Police text service to help disabled

A POLICE force is to introduce a text-messaging service to help people who are deaf or hard of hearing to get in touch. The initiative is a joint venture between Tayside Police and the Sound Sense Project, which is run by Tayside Association for the Deaf.
The service, which allows those registered to send a text to emergency services, will also be beneficial to members of the public with speech impediments.

Good to see the police using technology to help people rather than investing more and more on fancy speed cameras!!!!!

The problems with using text messaging as an emergency communication are that the sender has no way of knowing if the request for help has been received and that in the case of a major emergency mobile phone communication is often an early casualty.
