TWO men who fired a high-powered air rifle from a flat window and shot a 14-year-old boy in the head narrowly escaped jail yesterday.
Sheriff Richard Davidson told Simon Anderson, 20, and Michael Brankine, 22, who both fired the gun after a drinking session, that they should "watch Western films" to get an idea of how dangerous firearms could be. Anderson was sentenced to 240 hours of community service after pleading guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to culpably and recklessly firing an air rifle in the city on 12 January.

Brankine yesterday admitted firing the pellet which struck the 14-year-old, and was also given 240 hours' community service and ordered to pay £500 compensation to his victim.
