FREEMA Agyeman will return for the new series of Doctor Who.
Agyeman's character Martha Jones will be brought back in an episode that revives the Sontarans, one of the show's classic enemies.

The mid-season episode will be the first time Martha meets the Doctor's new assistant, Donna Noble, played by Cathe
rine Tate.

Doctor Who's fourth series, to be screened on BBC1 in the spring, will also feature an appearance by murder mystery queen Agatha Christie and a trip to Pompeii. Guest stars will include Felicity Kendal, Sarah Lancashire, Tim McInnerny and star Peter Capaldi.

The latest announcement rubbishes reports that Agyeman had been dropped from the hit show because executives were disappointed with her performance.

Agyeman said: "I am delighted to be back filming on Doctor Who with David and Catherine. Martha Jones returns in a fantastic storyline and the fans will get to see her in a whole new light."

The Sontarans first appeared on Doctor Who in 1973, when they met the Doctor as played by Jon Pertwee.

Christopher Ryan will guest stars as the head Sontaran in the new series.

A spokesman said: "Freema Agyeman who has played Martha Jones, the Doctor's companion throughout the critically acclaimed third series, will return to join the Doctor and Donna mid-series."

The new series of Doctor Who is in production in Cardiff.
