Castro too weak to address Cuban nation in public

CUBAN leader Fidel Castro revealed yesterday he is not strong enough to speak in public, more than 17 months after stomach surgery forced him to hand over power to his brother, Raul.
Castro's long illness – he last appeared in public on 26 July, 2006 – has raised speculation about his possible retirement when Cuba's parliament, the National Assembly, sits in March.

"I am not physically able to speak directly to the citizens of the municipality where I was nominated for our elections next Sunday," Castro said in an essay published by Cuba's state-run newspapers.

The 81-year-old leader looked frail but cheerful in photographs of a meeting he had on Tuesday with the Brazilian president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Castro wore the tracksuit top he has used during his long convalescence.

Another monarch will die, passing power on to his family members.

If a monarch is popular then people praise them, but in reality, they are still monarchs.

#2 Castro is an evil dictator whose ideology is the same one that killed far more people than Hitler managed.

#3 Not as hard as it is to be a Cuban living under strictly enforced Marxist pig ignorance

>"So true. Bush to his son. Clinton to his wife."

As the voters direct. Will Cubans get to vote on their next leader, Fidel's brother?

Funny how you guys don't seem to mention democracy. But then, it's not really a thought of yours, is it.

I have visited Cuba several times: been to Havana, Holguin, Baracoa, Santiago de Cuba - and have always found the people to be exceptionally friendly. Not materially wealthy at all, but certainly well educated, and the recipients of a reasonable diet and health care system.

I have also visited the USA several times. Unless I had some very expensive health insurance or was paying some very expensive school fees, I know where I would rather go get sick or go to school.

#15 Just ignore the fact that the state is the sole employer in Cuba as it is a totalitarian state.

And this great health care system is an utter myth. What on earth do they pay for it with?

Itchy. If your posts are anything to go by, I would suggest that you hav'nt been reading your history.Or in fact know your facts. Healthcare as mentioned above is free at the point of delivey in Cuba. Is it with you? Its paid for and subsidised by the Cuban government even though times are hard due to the trade embargo inflicted upon the Cubans by the US. The Cuban state is NOT the sole employer on the Island as there are many small to medium busnesses flourishing
Give me the facts to back up your comment about Castro and Hitler as i fear you have it hoplessly wrong.
No2 and 3 have it correct.

When Castro croaks it will be fun and games when half of Florida descends on Havana demanding the return of their family homesteads.

The NHS is a basket case which is why Brits with the wherewithal have their medical procedures done in the states. Brit schools do nothing more than babysit semi feral kids.
I exclude British fee paying schools from that comment.
