FORMER Tory Scottish Secretary Michael Forsyth has claimed First Minister Alex Salmond's performance in the economic crisis has been "embarrassing".
Speaking at a fringe meeting at the Scottish Tory conference in Perth, Lord Forsyth, who forged a career in banking after losing his seat in 1997, said Scotland had been saved by the Union with England.

He said: "We have a First Minister who would ditch the strength of the United Kingdom around us. And the Union has been absolutely vital in securing our financial sector and protecting tens of thousands of jobs –and here Gordon Brown deserves some credit. Alex Salmond's performance has just been . . . well, embarrassing."

Both Labour and the Tories know, as do the general public, that 99.99% of economic power lies with Westminster.

The Scottish government has done everything it can do with its limited power.

Everytime a Tory or Labour politician talks about Scotland they talk it down, reminding the poor locals how lucky they are that England saved them and how Scotland can't do this or can't do that.

I am not that negative, and I believe in Scotland and its potential. Thats why we should support the SNP.

Ah good old Michael Forsyth, still an idiot. So he's been involved in banking since 1997 has he ? Err that would be the banking system that went bust ? Good to see he spreads his talents liberally.....

Wow!

What a fascinating political critique from a nobody that is part of a nowhere party (in Scotland) that Scotland has been glad to forget ever held power.

labour are the embarrassment as far as the economy is concerned, and stating otherwise is just a waste of time.

Why does a bottom burp from a political nothing warrant even a quote, let alone a headline in Scotland 2009?

Our news reports are pure rubbish, that is why.

Keep it coming Forsyth, keep it coming !
One of the principal culprits... quisling numero uno...who was responsible for the Scottish Tories being on life support this past 20 years and more.

The irony is of course that the life support has come from the Scottish Parliament.

What an A-hole Forsyth is, he was one when the Tories were last in power and has been evere since.
I wonder if he is the Tories equivelant of the Baron Foulkes sake? Certainly looks like it.
The only reason his remarks have made it to this paper is he is attacking Alex Salmond and the SNP

What can Salmond actually do about the economy? Nowt. It is controlled by PM BROWN at Westminster - FACT!! He's the fella in charge.
Brown has been cutting the monies that used to be sent to Scotland to bolster his position down south because the Central Scottish Belt ALWAYS votes Labour regardless.
It is rather ironic that Salmond ACTUALLY possesses qualifications in Economics & Bankinig whilst Brown, like the bankers he appointed, have none whatsoever!
You couldn't make this stuff up!

It would appear that Forsyth did not get the memo from Auntie Annabelle that
the shameful imposed Thatcher era should be consigned to rubbish bin
of history. This would be loosely coded language that sycophantic henchmen like Forsyth should stay in their coffins, well at least until the next England imposed Conservatives. Then no doubt the we will have a remake of Night
of The Dead with the Scottish Conservatives Zombies led by
the like of Forsyth and Rifkind again rampaging over Scotland. These people
have no shame having misruled Scotland for 15 years, they are still telling Scots it was for our own good as will the next 15 years, but apparently they
will do it with respect so that is all ok :)

Typical GNATite remarks.

It doesn't matter what is said you will resort to a round of offence.

I have said it before and will say it again....You are glad there is a recession because you think it gives you license to rip the ruling party apart.

Even when good ideas are put forward you lot refuse to accept that anything good can come from anything other that the SNP. Your blind devotion to a single parties politics with no scope to accept that any other party might be right is very typical and unfortunately very negative.

We need to be positive. I do not hide that I believe we are in good hands with Labour but also acknowledge good politics wherever it comes from. I have congratulated the SNP, Tories and Libs when they make constructive remarks or suggestions. You lot are incapable of even that.
14

Queen D,

16/05/2009 14:18:45
Please indicate Mr Forsyths " good idea" and I will be happy to applaud.
He did'nt have any when he was in power so I'd love to acknowledge that he has learned something in the interim.
Should you be unable to indicate the " good idea" then I'll stand by my description with NO apology to anyone.

I would suggest you also take stock of the glorious Labour party which finds itself incapable of supporting ideas put forward by anyone else but , rather obviously , utterly incapable of supporting the SNP.
Operating as it does on the SNP=BAD principle will help ring its death knell in Scotland.
And its expenses may help to confine it to the bin in the rest of the UK.

Have these creatures no shame. What is this drivelling idiot on about?

The "court of public opinion" have already reached their verdicts. Take them down.

I see the Daily Record has once again shut down it's News Forum, unable to stop the tidal wave of anti unionista fury.

In my distant memory I just about remember Michael Forsyth. A pigmy of a Scottish Secretary, too frightened to challenge Thatcher, too busy licking her ****.

Twelve years of Gordon Brown got us into this mess.
Michael Forsyth might not have noticed that almost all financial powers are retained by the UK government and as a consequence Alex Salmond has very few powers at his hand to do anything about the present crisis.

smokey joe 1,

16/05/2009 16:31:25
Im sure he knows fine well the economy has very little to do with A.Salmond, like labour has has a deep routed hatred of the SNP and couldnt help himself haveing a dig.
Even though it made him look like a complete idiot.
20

me150,

If you really make an attempt to be impartial you will find that most of your remarks are total nonsense.

It also seems that the GNATite response to anyone not following the SNP line to the letter is to belittle, critcise or ridicule the writer.

It is no wonder that these forums are riddled with GNATites because most other people just can't be bothered with your petty agenda.

It is also the same reason why the SNP is held in very little regard by the 'majority'. I know you will have a ball with the majority part but I suppose for a change you might, just might, be justified.

I am not a SNP supporter but you can't help but think that Labour and the COnservatives see the SNP as a big threat. Big enough to try and discredit them at every opportunity.

That must mean the SNP are onto something !!! Maybe Scotland brings alot more to the union than they are letting on!!
