SCHOOLCHILDREN will be taught to design computer games in a bid to create the next generation of young programmers, it was announced yesterday.
Pupils will be taught to develop electronic entertainment in a move aimed at ensuring the success of Scotland's gaming industry, schools minister Maureen Watt revealed.
They will also be taught how to use software to create animations and films. The sector currently has more than 500 employees north of the Border and generates £20 million a year.
Ms Watt said: "Technologies have become part of life, whether in computer programming, engineering or craft and design – and we need to encourage children to be confident and competent using them."
