RUMOUR OF THE DAY
THE founder of American low-cost airline JetBlue Airways wants to start a new Brazilian airline, sources have claimed.

A Brazilian newspaper has reported that David Neeleman, chairman of JetBlue, has lined up investment totalling about £100 million for the venture and is also in negotiations to buy 36 mid-range jets.

The newspaper, citing sources close to the deal, said Neeleman has already bought a small Brazilian airline named Cheta with government authorisation to operate in Latin America's largest nation.

Neeleman was ousted as chief executive of JetBlue last year after the budget carrier was gridlocked following a US ice storm that exposed its policy of not canceling flights ahead of bad weather . Thousands were stranded.
