Boxing: McIntyre in limbo as appeal fails
KEVIN McIntyre has lost his appeal against the British Boxing Board of Control's decision to strip him of his British welterweight title.
And the Paisley fighter, who lost the title after twice pulling out of scheduled bouts against Kell Brook through injury, is not guaranteed to be installed as mandatory challenger. McIntyre will have to wait until after tomorrow's title fight between Sheffield's Brook and Welshman Barrie Jones to discover whether he will be able to fight the winner.
The BBBC discussed their decision at a stewards' meeting yesterday following protests from McIntyre's camp, but there was no change in their stance.
The board will decide on the mandatory challenger after tomorrow's title fight. "It doesn't mean that Kevin is not the challenger but the board have not decided that," added BBBC general-secretary Simon Block.
