EDINBURGH'S WBO super-featherweight boxing champion Alex Arthur is tipping Commonwealth champion Amir Khan to see off challenger Michael Gomez inside the distance when the pair go head-to-head at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena tonight.
Manchester ace Gomez handed Arthur, who is travelling south to watch the fight at ringside, his only defeat but the Capital fighter reckons Bolton's Khan will stop him inside three rounds.
He said: "Khan has too much of everything for Gomez.
"T
oo much ambition, too much punching power, too much youth.
"Gomez has had too many hard fights and is only a pale shadow of the guy who fought me at Meadowbank in 2003.
"If a fighter is a known puncher, as Gomez is, then, even with the erosion of age, the last thing he loses is his punch but Khan is no slouch at punching hard either.
"Some people might think that this is a similar scenario to when Gomez fought me in 2003. I was the rising star and Gomez, even back then, was the veteran ex-champion who was considered past his best but Gomez was a lot fresher and younger then than he will be in Birmingham tonight.
Gomez will be looking to get inside and trade toe-to-toe as that is his one chance but can't see Khan allowing that to happen.
"Khan knows he has to get rid of Gomez at the earliest opportunity and he has the tools to do it."
