Eagle undergoes eye op
A GOLDEN eagle has undergone pioneering eye surgery after a high-voltage accident.
The bird of prey is the first in the UK to have been operated on for cataracts.
The bird, which has a two-metre wing span and weighs 6.4kg, was being chased by a flock of ravens when she crashed into electricity cables. The bird, named Electra after the accident, was nursed back to health at a local sanctuary, Wings over Mull, in Craignure.
George Peplinski, an ophthalmologist from the Glasgow University Veterinary School, then removed the cataract from her left eye.
