Bar Edinburgh – Classic & New Scottish Flavours
****
Nascente NSBARCD025, £7.99
For a bargain price, with 30 tracks over two CDs and music from top names, this double album was devised as a pub soundtrack to give visitors to this country a taster of contemporary Scottish folk and traditional music. It's a broad church – Malinky, Deaf Shepherd and Emily Smith's ancient ballads, veteran Dick Gaughan's Americana, song arrangements by Back of the Moon, the Bairns, the Poozies and others, acid croft and dance grooves from Shooglenifty and Peatbog Faeries, and Latin crossover from Salsa Celtica.
