ABERDEEN striker Darren Mackie hopes his goal against Hibs has taken him a step closer to getting over an injury-hit season of frustration.
Substitute Mackie struck within a minute of coming on to cancel out the opener from Dean Shiels and put the Dons on road to victory. As a result of being sidelined with hamstring and ankle problems, Mackie had only previously scored two goals this se
ason, although both were hugely important. His header away to Ukrainian's Dnipro took Aberdeen into the UEFA Cup group stages, while the striker's close-range finish earned a surprise Scottish Cup quarter-final victory at Celtic Park.
But despite those moments of glory, Mackie is disappointed with his goalscoring return this term. He said: "I have only featured in about half the games and I missed a massive chunk in the middle of the season.
"I think it was 21 games that I missed all together. It has been frustrating and obviously it is good to have scored some important goals but I'd like to have scored more."
"There are three games left to go and we are four points behind. We want to try and catch the teams in front of us."
The Aberdeen striker added: "We know it is going to be difficult, but we have the ability to do it."
