THREE young people died and two more were injured in a crash involving a car and a van last night.
The driver of the car, thought to be in his early 20s, and a female passenger, thought to be in her teens, died at the scene in Banffshire.

Another girl, also in her late teens, suffered chest and leg injuries in the crash. She was airlifted to Ab
erdeen Royal Infirmary but died after she arrived.

The tragedy happened on the B9022 two miles south of Portsoy, Banffshire. Police and paramedics were called at around 6:15pm and sealed off the area.

Two other men who were travelling in the van were taken to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin. Their injuries were said to be not life-threatening.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said an investigation was under way to establish the cause of the crash.

He added: "Inquiries are still at an early stage, but it appears the male driver and two female passengers in the motor car involved were all fatally injured.

"The driver and one female passenger, believed to be aged in their early 20s and late teens respectively, died at the scene while the other female passenger, also thought to be in her late teens, was airlifted to hospital in Aberdeen, where she died of her injuries."
