A MAN was left with serious head and face injuries following a vicious knife attack, police said today.
The 28-year-old was taken to Aberdeen's Royal Infirmary after a fight broke out among four men in the city centre.

Grampian Police said the fight started between the men – all believed to be in their 20s – shortly before 11.30pm last night in the
Castlegate area of the city.

They urged anyone queuing at the nearby Snafu nightclub at the time who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cooper said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the queue at the time and particularly from anyone who was approached by one of the males shortly afterwards asking for a cigarette."

Police inquiries suggest the fight broke out in Marischal Street, spilled over into Castlegate, then into the Tilted Wig pub, and out again onto Marischal Street.

Sections of the area were cordoned off today to allow forensic examinations to take place.

DCI Cooper added: "Grampian may not have the same level of knife-related crime as some other parts of the country, but it is important that we get the message out that aggressive and violent behaviour has no place on the north east's streets and the carrying of weapons will not be tolerated in any shape or form."
