Surely , they know not what they do.

In my opinion, it is a national disgrace that any of our recoverable dead from conflicts 'overseas' have been interned overseas. It is understandable that in the days before refrigeration this might have been a necessity. But, the best way to honour these dead, on behalf of a greatful nation, should be to bring them back home and lay them where they belong - not in some foreign field that will ever be England. For the English - that's fine. For we Scots - I say bring them home, regardless of cost.

Thier is more shock about 50 year dead soldiers than their is regarding the fact our government actively abuses the lives of our living ones.

I agree with the sentiment of the story but what about our current soldiers? Do we only care about them when their dead?

The same thing is happening to American graves in France. I'd like to bring ours home, too.

#2 Conan, repatriation of war dead has always been an American ideal. Remember Rupert Brookes poem?

Plenty of our own cemeteries suffer from vandalism and graffiti
Those who commit these acts here do not even have the excuse of a misguided political doctrine to explain their actions.

I don't think for one minute t this desecration is merely random vandalism. My family from Eastern Europe have been very concerned about the rise of the far right and their representation in coalition governments for some time and the "west" seems to underplay their strength.Regularly jewish cemetries and Soviet war graves are desecrated in the Czech Republic and Slovakia by neo nazi groups and in Budapest they openly rally in full para military uniform(Magyar Garda). These thugs are well organised and not such a minority with support from many elderly fascists in these countries.

Yes, #7, I don't particularly give a rat's ass what you thing, as a German, since it was your lot (mostly) that filled those graves with our men. Yes, we should bring them back so that they do not have to share the earth with a bunch of stinkin' dead NAZIs.

#16. Conan, Moffat - Did someone frighten you with a Knockwurst to give you this irrational hatered of Germans? I hope no German tourists stray into Moffat whilst you are out and about (it'll leave a bad impression).
