Across the UK, this energy gap equates to a 31.5 per cent shortage at peak demand by 2020.

Scotland sits at the junction of a possible economic revolution. There is not a "do nothing" option.
However, this is not something that we can sit back and expect to come to us. Further investment from private industry and continued support and leadership from the government is needed. Mr.Kieron Brennan. I love the article on the global warming warning us of the problems we will have. My question is how do you come to figure of ..31.5 per cent shortage at peak demand by 2020.The only shortage I see at the moment is cash. Come 2020 the USA, Russia, Japan, China, India and big corporate will come with some thing. The promise is stop burning too much petrol in cars and aviation and factories. If we do this we die now. So can we wait till some comes with malaria anti dot. We in Tanzania have no problem of Glob Warming We are far. We do not know any thing. We are safe. Our politicians do not know how to measure the gas from the pump so how will they measure carbon for sale and advertise in eBay? Hers is lousy news. We don't car… Two suffocate during surgery as power cut 2007-03-24 10:08:23 By Pastory NguvuTwo people are reported to have died at the St. Francis Hospital in Ifakara after power went off while they were undergoing surgery.
A reliable source at the hospital who spoke to The Guardian by telephone on Tuesday on condition of strict anonymity said the two patients were on life-support machines and died after the abrupt power cut at around midnight. http://www.ippmedia.com/ipp/guardian/2007/03
Why can't we comment on so many articles?? What's going on??? Why are they closed to us???
#Scaramouche2"Why can't we comment on so many articles?? What's going on??? Why are they closed to us???"Friend are we getting up some noses?or have the sub editors gone on strike/ or could it be political censorship? The fishery one I wanted to comment on and I have not had the opertunity, shame.
"KIERON BRENNAN"What planet is this guy from? electricty can not be stored so we have to generate for the here and now."Longannet and Cockenzie coal-fired power stations and the Hunterston B nuclear station will mean a 42 per cent drop in generating capacity north of the Border, "The design of Longannet and Cockenzie power stations was a farce to begin with. Both power station will have to shut down for annual maintance this summer and will have to have billions spent trying to reduce their carbon emissions.Hunterston B is already shut due to cracks in the boiler tubes. We in Scotland are already importing base load from them in the south, when Ferrybridge has to shut down some of its generation capacity this summer Scotland will have power reductions.the "green generation available in Scotland can only be used as a top up not base load.
Yes, Scaramouche2, I was wanting to comment on the Iranians going off with our marines.
In the mid 70's I was on a survey vessel inside Iraqi waters, but close to the Iranian border, when an Iranian gunboat, bristling with guns, approached and came alongside.
The Iranian Captain came on board, and in a clipped Etonian accent, asked us for our position because he was lost!
'Nuff said.
""It isn't all doom and gloom, as these challenges present a sizeable opportunity. Scotland is uniquely positioned to "plug" the gap through renewable energy generation and reduce emissions through carbon capture. In fact, if Scotland is able to seize the opportunity, renewable energy generation alone could create up to 20,000 jobs and add £6.8 billion to the Scottish economy by 2020.""
Aye right! Existing renewables cannot plug the smallest of gaps because it is intermittent. The generation of electricity from renewables is not firm and secure for that reason.
What is needed is electricity from renewable energy sources that is non-intermittent and capable of supplying electricity 24/7 without backup from fossil and nuclear plants.
A Scottish invention that does just that is now going to be developed abroad, because nobody is interested in this country,
Sad, but there it is.
