Yeh but I bet no-one has the b**** to tell China to deal with this ecological nightmare in the making. Not when so many companies are reaping the financial rewards of investing in this cheapskate economic powerhouse.

I agree with everyone!
I did find China to be a place of wondeful people, run by pseudo-communists and suffering the worst pollution I have seen during my work-related travels.
I walked to work when I was in Guangzhou but, even in November, it was hot and smelly. The short walk from the Holiday Inn to the Twin-Towers was too short to take a cab and I would have felt bad by adding extra 'fug' to the city. I pity anything that lives in the Pearl River!
It was not much different in the very north, Harbin and Daqing. The river reeked and the street cleaners wore face masks. The morning paper offered the weather forecast but, more importantly, the pollution forecast.
It's a real shame....it's a beautiful place.
But how to halt this? The people want, the Govt must deliver and China is now going through its own industrial revolution.

China should be asked to work toward a cleaner expansion policy.....dont forget scandinavian complaints about the UK causing acid rain that ruined their forests..

The headlinr about a 12 day storm appears to be misleading.

"yellow dust storms about four days a year in the 1980s, nearly eight days a year in the 1990s and over 12 days a year since 2000"

It is not a 12 day storm it 12 individaul instances perhaps lasting a day. A bit like saying "Edinburgh mist covers city all month". If the rest of the story is accurate things seem to be getting worse but my guess is that this has been happening for millions of years.

It sort of puts the "global warming" garbage into perspective, doesn't it?
