Dracula doesn't need to be a tacky product. Properly staged it could be fantastic. Its the tacky part that needs to be stopped. The idea of Dracula is fantastic but only if it is done with style and taste.
The scenery is fantastic and insenstive tourist development must be avoided at all costs to preserve the medieval town. A medieval town in any form is in itself a great asset. Don't spoil it with tourist tack.
Oh dear, auld Vlad will be spinning in his tomb!
They are going to spoil it... because Romania is the EU now, and the new standards will require it - and our president is a classic whore. It's a shame we'll lose a lot of the natural heritage, unique in Europe. With the new EU standards, only the big tourism organizers will grow, while the small entrepreneurs - who are in the most beautiful parts - will be wiped out and replaced by fast food restaurants, highways and expensive hotels.
Sighisoara is especially a popular place for Romanians, so Dracula is not really the main attraction - it's an attraction just for stupid western tourists -- the medieval festivals, architecture and scenery that are key attractions.
You can see pictures from Romania, mountains, people, cities and other stuff on my site: http://www.at3p.org .
