Why is a member of the labour party, who moved the jobs from Ed to Gla in the photo. EEN your bias is shameful.

2

arrakis,

who on earth voted for Ewan Aitken?

3

Calum Crubag,

Why is this religious freak and hyppocrite still getting his photo in the EN?

This is rich coming from the leader of the last unlamented failed administration responsible for years of above average council tax rises and general messing around with Edinburgh which was responsible for driving many, many people away from the city.

Chris.J,

The Labour Party tried to bribe voters all over Scotland with our Edinburgh jobs! Ewan Aitken is one of them!
And then the EEN tries to dress this up as a victory for his campaigning!!! The bias of this pathetic rag is getting worse by the day!

6

Doh,

This is a story about the decision of the SNP led Scottish Executive - and the
Labour Evening News run a picture and comment from Comrade Aitken.

The current Council administration also support the jobs staying in Edinburgh.

The political bias of this Pravda-esque newspaper is breathtaking.

7

Grassmarket resident,

Doh..........! 01/09/2007 16:40:24

Councillor Reverend Ewan Aitken is not normally favoured by the News - has Homer not got a spell-check, or did he mistype Pravda meaning Prada?

Eck and his puppet SNP/liberal mush, out of control in the Council, will spawn a residents' exodus from the Capital with their ill conceived policies and school closures!

leith_man,

Number 6 - you are totally wrong. Between 1997 - 2007 Edinburgh had the joint lowest council tax rises of all of the local authorities in Scotland.

Ewan Aitken spoke out about this and lobbied the Labour / Lib Dem administration in the Scottish Parliament repeatedly (much to their dislike actually). The current lot haven't breathed a word about it.

You should try and get your facts right before you bore us with your opinion.

Save the cheerleader - save the world,

Yeah why is Ewan Aitken pictured? Why, he calls himself a councillor but doesn't even have a multi-million property portfolio to his name! Thank goodness things are different on the council now that it's no longer run by the sort of hoi polloi who send their kids to state schools.

Whats the point of 'bringing these jobs back'? Edinburgh house prices are beyond the reach of most public sector workers who will end up having to commute and clog up the transport system even more.

More home-working and hot-desking at secure tele-centres would seem to be a way to give people a better life / work balance. Of course its unpopular with middle management types who might find time hangs heavily on their hands.

I don't remember the people who's jobs were moved to Inverness being very happy about the prospect of resettling there and instead opted to accept redundancy. What was the cost of this to the taxpayer? How efficient was that organisation thereafter? And why were half the transferrred jobs sited in Glasgow by a West Central dominated Labour Executive I wonder?

He MAY be creepy but he DID drop the whole "destroy a decent state education in Edinburgh" plan.

Can the incumbent council say the same thing? I think not.

#16 non pol

Nobody is destroyign decent state education in Edinburgh.

Just proposing closing expensive under utilised schools.

There is a big difference.

And as you have been told Ewan postponed plans for school closures during an election year - because it fools people like you.

17. Doh

Thanks for that.

I thought we had had this discussion elsewhere?

But here is my point again, thanks for the opportunity to make it:

By Closing GOOD, high achieving small schools using a flawed (some could say false set of criteria that are even incorrect within the framework set by themselves i.e. garbage) in favour of cramming kids together into schools based purely upon student numbers (ignoring the far more important criteria of QUALITY) the council is not IMPROVING state education in Edinburgh or in fact even maintaining the status quo.

So I think the use of the word DESTROYING whilst somewhat melodramatic is not too wide of the mark.

I know that if my child has to move from stockbridge to another (now bursting at the seams or if we are "Lucky" a building site for the bulk of his primary years) school it is quite safe to say that his education will be severely damaged by that.

Oh yes, and I wager you will find that the parents at the accomodating schools have a somewhat negative sentiment wrt how the incomers will effect THEIR childrens education.

As for the whole "trickster Ewan" myth, i could have sworn people like me voted him out, perhaps more correctly we have been fooled by the SNP who forgot to put this in their manifesto.

The only difference between line 1 and line 2 of your post is that the first is wrong whereas the second is a council attempt to say "hey look over there" whilst they pinch a chip from our fish supper.
(i.e. a pretty basic attempt at misdirection)

That, in my exprience works only on preschoolers.
