Its a city for f88k sake, people think they live in the countryside these days.. Of course this will happen, get a grip..
This has been going on for ages. I used to see "Nos savants" stencils in Lothian Road about 4 years ago, I reckon.
Yeah #2... Has been going on for years. Most of the stuff I've captured at http://www.pbase.com/wangi/urban is probably from 2005, but I saw stencils long before then.
Oh, and it's quite unfair to label all stencil "graffiti" as some sort of smash-and-grab quick vandalism. You can see stencil work which is very involved, obviously took a lot of time, is in an acceptable location and really is a work of art; for example: http://www.pbase.com/wangi/image/43623627
#3. Like your site. Some vandalism is quite impressive, I have to say. The protagonists might be little gits but they genuinely have some talent. If only they put it to some good more often. Sadly most vandalism is done out of pure spite.
Some of its good Wangi no doubt and I'm a big fan of Banksy. However some "artists" would be better off practising on the side of a cardboard box rather than ruining a wall. Here in Holland derelict property and underpasses are often turned over to grafitti artists in the hope that they will concentrate their efforts there and leave city streets alone.
To be honest , it doesnt really work !
"Stencil graffiti"???
Then it ain't even proper graffiti!
Gimme a break!!!
Yeah, the News seems a bit slow on the uptake - new form emerging? Er, no, they've been around for years, actually, try opening your eyes and looking out for things like real reporters. Not condoning graffiti but some of these are pretty good; annoying when done on a nice building, but I've seen some on hideous, ugly buildings that should never have been constructed, such as the concrete monstrosities around George Square, which actually made the hideous block look a bit better.
#7. I left my stencil outside for 5 mins. When I came back it was daubed in paint. It IS a problem.
This new Giraffiti,Is it sprayed up high then.
Brilliant...we have a bit round York, nothing bigger than a foot square but it always makes me smile.Apart from the, less than obvious, quality of some of the distressed walls as art in themselves, long may such stuff thrive.
Great article???
It's only been going on for years - periochial bloody press!
I scooped a couple of Banksy prints in 2003 for about £300. They're now valued in the thousands if not tens of thousands. The Evening News has missed the boat on this one I'm afraid.
Street art has never been an eyesore and always brightens up my day.
Ashley !!! Have you been on your hols ?
I noticed the fancy EDI bit.
Who or what is Banksey?
Did we ever find out who ryder was?
Here you go Johnspain
