The wheels come off as 250,000 cars recalled over safety risks
----------------------------------------------------------
Hey Dudes ,

This is a real safety issue,,, but I don't see you squawking SNP groupies, saying anything in this thread that could offer a solution.

Possibly it is above and beyond your fanatical and parochial mind set. ..And because it does not mention some squawk, made by ur leader Alamond .

Independence for Scotland I can understand, but with a bunch of SNP squawkers . it would fail ..

Why , because you are all, much too fanatical, and you live in dead and gone historical timeset

Happy Cars with Wheels Day

""Car companies must contact owners through DVLA records when a defect is identified.

But almost one in ten are never traced, according to VOSA, which believes some 27,000 of this year's defective cars are still on the road. ""

Does this mean that DVLA has failed to follow up on 27,000 unlicenced cars? I think we should be told

""Others include a batch of Jeep Grand Cherokees, the heated seats of which could catch fire when the driver is sitting inside the vehicle. ""

Is this what really happened at the airport?

No. 7: kindly clarify - is your concern about drivers' exhausts or those pertaining to the cars in question?? :-)

"Others include a batch of Jeep Grand Cherokees, the heated seats of which could catch fire when the driver is sitting inside the vehicle."

A-ha! So it wasn't a terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport.

I can debate most lesser topics, such as nationhood & politics, with courtesy and calmness
- but when people say 'Robin Reliant', I completely lose all semblance of self-control.

IT'S 'RELIANT ROBIN'.

Ooh, I feel so much better for having let off steam.

I thought there was something called DVLA where all UK cars were registered, VOSA should be chasing them up and getting them off the road there a danger to other road users.
Then there are records kept by the congestion charging system etc.
OH I forgot privacy is more important than life in the UK.
It is yet one more case of 'anything goes on the roads - notice how it is reported as if it is only of danger to the owners never mind other road users

I think we can take some comfort from the figures quoted from the manufacturers mentioned - they're the ones who took the responsibility to face up to potential problems - I'd want to know more about the cars which are having problems but aren't being recalled because the manufacturers are too miserly.

Don't buy a Vauxhall. I was shocked when I saw the corrosion in the rear suspension of Pamela's car. The coil spring itself was unsound and the rest of the gubbins was totally rusted to ***. And the Macpherson strut on the nearside left has gone as well. The Central Garage Dingwall is putting the entire thing back in shape for the annual MOT.

She should have sold it years ago. The Mini had problems on a basically sound car but it was never the trash like today's GM products.

Isn't it the case that VOSA and the DfT tells the manufacturers to undertake a recall?

At least that's what the article seems to be saying.

Hiya. I've got this - taken from VOSA's website:-

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) conducts Roadworthiness inspections on vehicles involved in accidents where it is suspected that there may have been a contributory mechanical defect. This enables us to further investigate reports of alleged safety defects in vehicles and components. In the case of serious recurring safety faults, manufacturers conduct a recall under the code of practice for vehicle safety defects that is administered and supervised by VOSA.

The problem is, there are many manufacturers who know of specific faults with their cars and yet do not perform recalls unless forced to. The faults quoted in this article are obviously the most serious faults found. There are many, many other known faults in cars that perhaps won't directly cause accidents or the like and therefore the manufacturers sit on their bahookies and do nothing. It affects each and every one of us as a consumer though. There are notably certain manufacturers who do take this business more seriously and do the right thing by us and this should be applauded - they're the ones who will carry on getting my business.

Now that's hurtful and bordering on sacreligious!

Oh what a wondrous world 'twould be
if every car had wheels just three;

if everybody's vehicle
were not so long and not so tall.

A wondrous world of truck and car
with wheels arranged triangular.

Bentleys started life as truck engineering and this is much their current line up. Truckers check their wheelnuts daily. Was this not mentioned in the hand book?
