That should inspire the relatives of the unfortunate people who have lost their lives; and those scarred by serious injury; and possibly; psychologically as well! It has been a tragic event which raises many pertinent queries which I trust will soon be truthfully answere!

"Bush said: "This is a difficult time for the community in Minneapolis, but the people there are decent and resilient, and they will get through these painful hours.

"As they do, they know that all of America stands with them, and that we will do all we can to help them to recover and to rebuild."

The White House said the President would provide the necessary funding to get the span quickly rebuilt.

"This is just the beginning of the financial assistance we will make available to support the state in its recovery efforts," Bush said. "

Seems to me we've heard these same words, or versions therefore, after every natural disaster (and at least one unnatural one) that has happened since this idiot stole the election on 2000. Katrina is a prime example, and look at the Gulf Coast now, two years later.

Since the bridge that collapsed is a part of the FEDERAL Interstate System, one would like to hope that, for once, the Federal government will live up to it's responsibilities, and pay for the reconstruction, as they ought to. But I for one, am not going to be holding my breath, waiting for this administration to do the right, correct, and proper thing.

The gulf coast received more than enough money to repair everything twice over, the idiots in charge of Louisiana squandered the money the Feds gave them and also the money people sent them from all over the world. The Mississippi next door to LA acted immediately because they had strong local leadership just like they had in NY City during 9-11. The idiots in Louisiana did not have any local leadership. The voters in Louisiana are stupid and will re-elect idiots rather than electing competent leaders like Mississippi has.

I can't believe you are blaming Bush for the incompetent Governor of Louisiana and the idiot Mayor of New Orleans.

While the bridge was on a Federal Interstate Highway, the Federal funds are provided to the State to perform or supervise the construction and MAINTENANCE (including inspection) of the roads and bridges of the Federal Highway System.
Or does the author of comment #6 think that President Bush was personnaly there the night before the bridge collapse, wiring the detonators on the explosives he and Vice-President Dick Chaney planted?

My relations are US Citizens and this clearly shows the lack of bridge maintenance Bush also needs to show sympathy to all the women , children and men his military are killing everyday in otther countries.

Are you saying that having relations in the US is connected to the bridge collapse? It sounds that way:

"My relations are US Citizens and this clearly shows the lack of bridge maintenance"

Bridge maintenance and road work are the province of the individual states. The Feds grant money to the states but it is the states that spend it and they have a very wide latitude on how they do. Federal highway funds are routinely diverted by the various states for other purposes. Bush and the Feds have nothing to do with it. If you want to know what happened to the money Minn. got from the the Feds to maintain the bridge, go to the Minnesota's line item budget and find out for yourself.

Maybe we should start by apologizing for all those Germans and Japanese we killed while we were keeping you safe. Get something through your thick skull, Skippy, we are doing what we think is right and it is our money that is being spent and the precious lives of our brothers, sisters, fathers, sons, and daughters that are being lost and lost for the same reason they were lost keeping you and your millions of sheep out of the hands of the Japanese. We are apologizing for nothing, ingrate creep.

It's amazing, seems there are still people like #11 57 Nomad around who believe they saved the world
in WWII.
They seem to forget they were a few years late joining in.

Re the bridge collapse, it's just a pity Dubya and his gang were not underneath it.

A few years late? Maybe so. We were having a good time watching you clowns get your asses kicked by the Japs and Germans when the Empire of the Sun made their "Darwin Mistake" at Pearl Harbor.

In 1942 the Japanese Imperial Navy was on their way to capture Port Moresby, New Guinea, thereby cutting off Australia and New Zealand. That would have put them out of the war at best, or a Japanese province. They were intercepted by the US Navy at the Battle of the Coral Sea and turned back at great cost to the US in men and ships.

I don't know who you are or where you live, but Oz is probably as good a place as any for you. So what you say should be read in that light. Here's what Churchill said:

"I did not pretend to have measured accurately the martial might of Japan, but now at this very moment I knew the United States was in the war, up to the neck, and in to the death. So we had won after all! . . . Great Britain would live . . . . Once again in our long island history we should emerge, however mauled or mutilated, safe and victorious."

You may not understand your history, you myopic buffoon, but Churchill did. So, your quarrel as to who held the hammer in WWII isn't with me, it's with Churchill. Perhaps you know better.

The fact that Winston Churchill recognised the vast military might of the US in no way negates the fact that the US---an ally of the UK--hesitated, dithered and procrastinated about coming to the aid of its a lly and the free world and adopted a sit-on-the-fence policy.
Lease Lend was indeed a lifesaver but that cannot gloss over the late entry of the US into WWII. The US only entered when it was attacked. It did then enter wholeheartedly, and together with the might of the USSR, saved the day.

But the fact remains, the US entered the war late and that will cannot be forgotten. As Omar Khayyam neatly wrote:

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
