Mr.Brown is a reincarnation of a great Conservative prime minister, Stanley Baldwin, who steered Britain through the depression and the abdication and the rumblings of war.

Although Baldwin had a somewhat colourless appearance and manner, the nervous voters were much taken by his slogan "safety first". That is an ideal slogan for today, with terrorism and out-of-control personal debt, great companies like Marconi disappearing and others (like ICI) about to disappear. Even the BBC is in trouble. We need a strong father figure.

Broon reminds me of my early Presbyterian childhood in Dundee in an enviroment of strong paternalistic support and where everything could be achieved through "wurrk"!
Blair and his cronies terrified me, but Broon emits reassurance!
