Is there any end to the misery and wars in todays world, as a result of past British imperialism and greed in the name of Empire.

2

Deag,

Edinburgh 18/05/2007 12:08:45

SweetMike what a sweeping statement!! There are many countries that transitioned from a colony to a successful independent nation. Zimbabwe was left at independence as a success story 27 years ago. It is their own ruler who had runied it.

3

Philip Cronin,

Bedford 18/05/2007 12:10:12

It was the British that gave Zimbabwe a golden opportunity to become a first world country, and Zanu-PF has sole responsibilty for throwing that away.

...."SweetMike"

....Yes, British imperialism has ruined India, Canada, Australia................................

5

Paddi,

18/05/2007 14:00:56

It could have been worse, the rate could ahve been 3715%

Did we do such a bad job as imperialists? just look at how things have turned out, 170 years of rule in the US and look at them now!

6

paul the binman,

18/05/2007 14:34:35

Ah its so refreshing to have an American pass judgment on us,oh if only we could get everything as right as they have. Now correct me if Im wrong but did'nt the USA go to war with Spain for imperialist reasons,oh and Mexico. How about the "bay of pigs" or Vietnam, well I think you get the picture,if not.How about China.See glass houses and stones........

7

Cynic,

Dalkeith 18/05/2007 15:58:00

Murdering Mugabe mauled Zimbabwe's economy and everything decent in the country. If bedfellows SourMike and plonker #4# cannot appreciate that fact, then it's about time they tuned in to World affairs. A bullet for Mugabe is the only hope for that country.

SweetMike, do the letters U.S.S.R men anything to you?

13

SweetMike,

Texas 18/05/2007 18:59:23

Philip Cronin, Bedford, after years of theft from the people of Rhodesia y'aal left because you had no option. Unfortunately you left behind your offspring that figured they could continue on farming land stolen from the natives.

14

SweetMike,

Texas 18/05/2007 19:01:12

Thats right Paddie. After we kicked your asses out of our country we did and continue to do fine.

15

SweetMike,

Texas 18/05/2007 19:07:04

paul the binman, The bay of pigs was Cubans attempting to liberate their country. Vietnam was an attempt to halt communism. You mentioned China. That being a country your government distributed Opium in at the point of a gun, and sold it by the ton once half the country was addicted. To top it off you had Indians and Burmese growing and processing it for you in their occupied countries. Your country is the biggest drug dealer in the history of the world.

16

SweetMike,

Texas 18/05/2007 19:10:56

Cynic, Dalkeith, "Murdering Mugabe" learned from the master. The British Empire is responsible for more deaths and misery than The Third Reich, Stalin, and Pol Pot combined.

17

Conan,

Here 18/05/2007 19:50:20

I do so love it when another of the left's poster children manages to turn out to be such an ignornant thief and scoundrel, as had been predicted at the time he came to power with his commie buddies ..... they sure can pick them, can't they? Happy now, lefties?

18

Paddi,

18/05/2007 20:25:38

You owe it all to us, don't try and deny it , you know it's true & you secretly admire us. After all, you're writing and talking in my language.......now thats some gift. Thank us.

19

Paddi,

18/05/2007 20:41:46

We ruled you for 200 years when we were and were to become the largest empire the world has ever known. Not bad for a little bity island 1/2 the size of Maine.

You were taught by us how to do it, the exploitation bit. Without us you dont exist, thats why your so good at it now. YOU ARE US. Anglo-saxon genes have been the big cheeses for 400 years, you're doing your fathers bidding.

#2 thru to #7.

Well said. Nutjobs like Sweetmike engage their arses before figuring they might have a brain. I get tired reading garbage from people whose appreciation of history is skewed towards flimsy argument.

Those like Sweetmike who constantly drag up British imperialist history and attempt to make pathetic political capital out of it to support their grudges. To persecute present generations by trying to impose guilt for the actions of their forebears is as stupid as it gets.

Apart from the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Canada, one of the world's greatest economic success stories is Hong Kong. Great place, great people, who show no animosity whatsoever to the descendants of those terrible imperialist drug-dealers. Similarly China.

Sweetmike, stop beating up people who show genuine concern about the hellish state Zimbabwe is in on account of one man. A wicked dictator.

#19 & 20, Paddi
Nice one ... and don't forget the Celtic gene pool either!

#9 & 10- Mike-Posting twice- Did you have a senior moment for a minute there?

22

JayJay,

Glasgow'ish 18/05/2007 21:29:42

I await Zimbabwe's appointment to lead the UN's Economic and Finance committee.
As for Mugabe's threats to jail people for raising prices....he just hasn't quite grasped the concept of economics yet has he? Should stick to what he knows best.

23

Bran the Builder,

18/05/2007 22:01:18

21 I believe Mike is a senior moment

24

Paddi,

Angus, thanks for the reminder, I should have known better having had time with the "Faughs"

25

Paddi,

18/05/2007 22:03:39

23 what a about a c aunt?

26

paul the binman,

18/05/2007 22:13:05

If our American friend wants to go down the drug line, how about the fact that most of the drugs comming out of the area around Vietnam was paid for and shipped by the CIA.The bay of pigs was funded by the CIA,and the American government tried to control parts of China just as the western nations did at the end of the 19th century. As for the argument about preventing the spread of communism, ask the people who lost family in Chile how they feel about Americas imperialist ideals. After all the US goverment provided active support to the military in its overthrow of a legaly elected democratic government.
Oh and on the point of Zimbabwe, lets not forget that there were two distinct trible groups, although now, through ethnic cleansing in vast regions there is only one main tribe now.Not carried out by the nasty imperialist but by your good friend Mugabe.

27

Angus Lindsay,

Xiang Gang 18/05/2007 22:14:49

sorry Paddi, should have been #18 and 19.

31

#28 go and ask your mum.

32

SweetMike,

The Land of the Free. 19/05/2007 19:34:12

Paddi, I was not aware that we were speaking gaelic at the moment. Thanks for the language. The language you are speaking is the language of your English masters.

33

SweetMike,

The Land of the Free. 19/05/2007 19:47:17

American, I was posting in here and talking on the phone at the same time.
20. Angus Lindsay, The success of Hong Kong is due to the native born residents and not the British. Anything the British did for any Empire country was for the benefit of London. This is also the case with Canada, and Australia. In fact those countries are made up of immigrants who were economic refugees from the UK. Should we start in on Kenya? and the thousands that were tortured and murdered in British concentration camps not so long ago?

34

SweetMike,

The Land of the Free. 19/05/2007 19:55:32

Angus Lindsay, I imagine you are also quite proud of the fact that Britain introduced slavery into the Caribbean and Americas by the hundreds of thousands. The life expectancy of a British slave in the cane fields was 6 years. The history of your country needs no twisting by me. It is drenched in blood, murder, drugs, slavery and theft from the poor countries of the world.

35

Angus Lindsay,

Xiang Gang 19/05/2007 22:27:34

#34. sourmike

Read the second paragraph of my post #20, you thickhead.

I don't know on whose behalf you are whining on here, but to revisit past wrongs committed by people unknown to me and mine generations ago is the ultimate in idiocy. Is that the line you take with present generations of Germans whom you no doubt hold responsible for the two world wars started by their forefathers?

As for your dumb retort to Paddi #32, "the language of your English masters ..." You clearly know nothing about English linguistic history and development. Or much else that fits the rational bill. Blasting off like an out-of-control missile is obviously your way of evacuating your sad system of its vile contents.

Idiot.
