Election, Election, Election.....................!!!!
maybe they could use some of the £20m pounds that they are hoping to raise from selling off OUR Council Buildings.....mmm... that could be a new concept - spending PUBLIC money on PUBLIC projects and not even more council offices!
Lets hope common sense prevails and the council put some money in.
1. Good point.
Its a sad day when our only multi purpose sports stadium has to be flogged off in order to raise council money, and a small "replica" built at Shighthill.
The Meadowbank Statdium/Sports Centre is ideally situated and should be maintained.
If £25 million is needed to refurbish it, perhaps the Council should rent out the new HQ building to the private sector and cancel the "Golden Handshakes" which are going to be paid to retiring Councillors.
But watch out for the Council Tax taking another leap.
Wait a minute - the brown envelopes, all we need to do is get all the brown envelopes together and that'll pay for it!Why didnt we think of that before?
#5 A great idea,They would cover many cooncil projects.

# TROOO! - read below about the miracle!
after banging on for a couple of years about the state of kitchens , central heating and bathrooms in Oxgangs. I have just received a vague letter saying we are part of a refurbishement scheme!
Call me cynical but this is exactly one of the issues i have pulled up the failing labour led junta at Edin city council. publicly and obviously embarassingly on thse forums!
HURRAH! THE INTERNET FOR DEMOCRATIC REFORM!!!!
And lo and behold after being a bit vocal on the subject and them expecting a trouncing we have a vague letter! Which will probably be covered with another vaguer one in a month saying no budget or no contrator!
It's amazing how much of your money is getting spent to save their asses!Just like meadow bank and scottish exec jobs.
REMEMBER GET SOLID ANSWERS! NO FLIM FLAM ANNOY THE HELL OUT OF THEM IF IT WILL IMPROVE YOUR AREA!
IT WORKS IN ELECTION YEARS. Well, they send a letter full of vague promises. we'll see!
I received a hilarious comunication from the local council candidate in colinton. Distancing himself from the party and administration as much as possible!
He kinda trips himself up with :"I want to change procedures so that all services are delivered highly efficiently, giving us all savings on our council tax bills. In any organisation business or goverment, problems are the responsibility of the top management. I saw the beneficial effects when I brought in an outsider as general manager to run our taxi company-it is now edinburgh's biggest.
I am convinced, the new top management of the council must also have relevant experience outside local goverment to speed up procedures, serve the public and boost staff morale"
LOL
1 . he canny run a taxi company - he states it runs better without him.
So why would the folk in oxgangs want a taxi driver that canny manage , managing their affairs?
He also make a point and
RANDAN WELL SAID! I have seen plenty of them going to cooncilors , and ones an SNP canditate!
Can you tell who it eez yet....... rolfaroos! he selt of plenty when he was in labour, leading the sports and recreations sell offs and contract awarding. amazing a millionaire who hasnae held a joab(xcept council appointed ones!e.g. turn up nod, get a fortune to claim. And boy did he!)
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm dubious!
Kick the expectant shi ite oot! vote labour in his ward! LOL!
very recommmeded viewing.
as it says at the end:They are very close to the developers.
Some of them are shareholders and directors!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miko9rcRhX4 - A good bit of public campaigning. Non partisan, just showing how uselss the current leadersip is. look at aitken looking like a right u tube!
I note however the disemination monkeys at junta hq are posting comments, saying they agree they dont want sell fo but think off the kids!.
You shot yerself in foot posting on all edinburgh issues. obviously a prospective candidate trying to curry favour. Exactly the same as the councilors we've had. Look how many are taking the 20 grand bung and going for the big prize!
I rest ma case
as the song goes in the film. Dinnae sell the old toon to build a big hotel.....or any other parts of our property, at slash prices to yer buddies!
Thanks to the EEN for supporting this - even if it was a little late.
Thanks due where thanks is due.
#12 even the here no evil see no evil times, sees the writing on the wall. Saw them turn a blind eye to the goings on in the chambers for years.
obviously trying to get in with the new lot and a wee allegiance change.
But well done for getting behind the people who buy the paper and forgeting the ones who embargoe your stories(labour, do'nt say bad or you only get licencing list to print!)
http://www.citystrolls.com/z-temp/common-sense.htmWhat our friends in Glasgow are facing
25 million of our cash??? The Council isn't there to subsidise people's hobbies. Let the customers pay for the revamp.
You tube video fantastic.... people power and re-engagement with local politics. WE can achieve lots when we all pull together with passion to save the things that are importatn to the local community. Don;t let the local councillors who are in the pocket of local property developers get away with selling off (or is it out) Edinburgh. Meadowbank is saved for now, the fight goes on to get proper people participation in the decision making process. We should have the option to vote on what kind of sport and leisure facilities we want in Edinburgh, we voted ont he congestion charge so why not other financially expensive projects. By the way the council can;t have it both ways, if community leisure centres and getting people fit and healthy is importatn why close Glenogle Baths?
Fight on and keep asking difficult questions!
Is Leith Waterworld going to be demolished to make way for yet another tesco? I've heard rumours but can't find out muchThere is already 1 in Grt Junction and another on the walkhttp://www.tescopoly.org/As tesco contributes to Labour ... roll on the 3rd
... Fernando (Talking) PooIt is the remit of the council to provide sports facilities for the population, as otherwise projects of that size would never get done. Is it subsidised? If it is then not by much. If it is for the public good, then so what.
Randan: The Council extracts cash from us with the threat of jail. That might just about be justified when spent on public health and street cleaning but it's plainly unreasonable to go and blow the loot on what's nothing more than hobbies. It's no more justified for the Council to pay for someone to play sport than it is for them to buy me some Hawkwind tickets. Let people pay for their own leisure.
Save money by cutting a % of council jobs, reorganising the work force & attitude is required. Earn money by collecting the council taxes, also foreign workers taxes. Follow through with HMO fines, penalise dog fouling, drunk behaviour as previously stated at last elections. “Get tough" what a load of spin.
George Street is the most heavily ticketed street in UK generating an enormous amount of funds then add the entire frame work, that's a lot of money that could be used.
Stop giving local councillors fat hand outs, am sure there are loads of costing saving incentives the problem is that we have a bunch of idiots running the show. All of which couldn't hold a job in the private & commercial sectors.
Hence the increase in Scots immigrating to Canada, NZ and SA? Soon Scotland will be full of non paying immigrants dodging the easy system to scam and avoid detection and immigration eviction.
Wow has the UK collapsed.
Is there an election coming?! Is Ewan Aikten trying to save his skin?
Finally, Ewan Aitken has finally come around to doing something decent about Meadowbank, not far from his own Council ward in Restalrig.
Still looks like a bit of New Labour electioneering to me, however.
