Pretty awful book (not much different from Welsh there then) but like Trainspotting I think it will transfer well to the big screen. Looking forward to it.

I thought Trainspotting was pretty good, but McGregor was right about Porno as a book. As for "waiting for them (the actors) to look ravaged by time (in their 40s)(gee, thanks!!)" has the director never heard of make-up and/or prosthetics?? The ageing process on film is very good now. So realistic.

As for expectations about the film itself, I can do no better than quote Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #19. Satisfaction is not guaranteed!!

Edinburgh certainly is a strange place. No sooner was I reading about the "scum" living in Wester Hailes described as an oddity and now they are hailed as heroes who revived the Scottish film industry. Apparently you either have to go to private school or be a druggie to fit into Edinburgh!

comment #6 yer talking bollocks. Trainspotting was about Leithers.

Its great when you can slag of a community and tar its residents with the same brush in the safety of an annonymous coment board, but I ask you, would you have the guts to actually say this to anyone in Wester Hailes face to face?

Trainspotting portayed a reasonable portrait of the drug scene.......a bit O.T.T but allowing for artistic
privilege it was not bad.

Its not however an indication of how the drug scene is in Leith....Scotland has pockets of drugtaking areas and its not just unemployed people or a class issue.

The opinion appears to be one of NIMBY....

wait until the actors are in their 40's? I thought the make-up department could do that as well as making them look ravished.

Excellent film by a crap writer who only got hailed as a 'visionary' by a few luvvies. Edinburgh is more than smack and neds and middle class devides.

On a side note I found this excellent wee site http://www.maspace.co.uk good scottish allternative lol

"Trainspotting" was a very good film for it's time, but it seems so 90's now. Let's face it, whatever it's virtues, within the context of the history of movies "Citizen Kane" it's not. I think Ewan McGregor is correct in thinking that it would not be wise to go back and revisit the past. Ewan's roles are so varied and his performances are so strong in the films he's chosen I don't think he needs to go back and become Renton again. The script would have to be extremely good for him to reprise. That said, I think he and Danny Boyle should kiss and make up and work on another project in the future.
