If Allah is omniscient – and I'm sure Muslims will claim this for Him, otherwise He's just another B-list God – if He's omniscient, He already knows everything that is going to happen, all that we are going to do, and whether or not He is going to intervene.

He cannot change His mind, for that would mean He had been wrong, i.e. not omniscient at all. He'd disappear up his own contradiction.

So prayer is pointless. It cannot convince Him to intervene, to bend His own laws of Nature, to stump up with a miracle. Nor can praising Him cannot make Him think better of you; He's already made up His mind about you; your fate is already sealed.

Prayer cannot change His mind – so why do it?

Even more so, why do it five times a day, 1,825 times a year (1,830 in a leap year), perhaps 127,750 times in a life?

I think that the point was the fervant religious fundamentalism in many religions who's original teachings were violent by credo, makes it easy for fanatical preachers and politicians to whip up violence in their followers and supporters for their own political or personal ends. For the most part, the enlightenment, the schism of the protestant church and the resultant reformation of Christian doctrine accross most sects - including the Catholic church, has ensured that Christian theology consentrates on the peaceful teachings of Christ, rather than the more violent teachings of the Old Testament - which Christians believe Jesus came to us to modify, or clarify. No Christian preacher could now tell us not to eat pig, or that keeping slaves is fine, as long as they are foreeigners (non-jews) - Christ put these things into context and subsequent theological evolutiion has meant that such things are long gone from the broader Christian palet - or western agnostic, which comes from the same tradition.

There are quiet a few postings on this board claiming that atheists or "non-believers" don't murder in the name of beliefs/ideology. I suggest you Wiki search and read under the following names: "Joseph Stalin", "Mao-tse Tung", "Khmer Rouge", and "Kim Il Sung." These people were all militant atheists who killed far more people than all of the crusades, inquisitions, and even jihads combined (add up the numbers). Islam, from its very beginning, and within in its holy book, glorifies violence and hate. When there are no Christians, Jews, or Hindus left to kill, the Muslims start killing each other. Islam treats women like children at best, and like livestock at worst. Islam is evil. You British and Europeans might want to go ahead and start packing your bags to come over here if you're not going to take a stand against these people.

The West is confronted with a radically different world view. It is impossible to understand such brutality. Stories like this should remind us of how fortunate we are living where we have Western values. Values we live with every day. It's good to always remember where those values came from. Clue: It wasn't athiesm.

Loose your faith then become apsotate and then loose your life just for asking a question ? better to keep quite I think ?

Some points to perhaps think about?
1) The "pray or beheaded" folks SAY they belive in life after death.
2) As mentioned by several posters, after MANY generations of being taught/trained/brainwashed? that their way is the ONLY way, and if you do not believe, then off with your head - then clearly, discussion with them is just a waste of time..
3) Solution? Since they do not believe that death is really death, AND since they cannot be negotiated with, AND since they are dangerous to the life and peace of the rest of us on Earth - then, send em all to heaven in a ball of fire! We will NOT have actually killed them, THEY will be much happier in heaven, Earth will be a much safer place where true peace among the rest of us unperfect humans would then have a chance.

What is going on?
Every time I turn around another religious fanatic's story comes to light!
I guess I can count my blessings living in a country where religious extremists are not welcome.

These fanatics are promised 72 virgins if they blow themselves up and kill others. Does that mean that there is lots of sex in Ala's heaven? Does Ala watch or are there privite rooms? Is it consentual sex? Is there a limit on the type of sex? Once the virgin is no longer a virgin, then what happens to her? Once the wonderful man, that killed innocent women and children to get there, no longer has any virgins left, then what happens to him? Do they smoke after sex? What happens to the homosexuals and lesbians? Strange world that some people live in.

Seem like there ought to me a "how-to" manual somewhere.
