Given the over abundance of trawlers chasing a terminally declining fish population it shouldn't be beyond the wit of one of the international organisations to orchestrate a clean up of this using spare trawler capacity and (the now banned) fine mesh nets.

Or will, as expected, the entire world community continue to marvel at this monument of consumerist stupidy and do absolutely nothing about it?

Exactly - clean-up to start immediately, please. Although one seriously doubts that it will.

The overwhelming majority of fish are found fairly close to land because in deep ocean nutrients fall beyond use. Therefore if this exists in the "middle of the ocean" it cannot be a serious threat to fish let alone turtles.

This report cites nobody but Greenpeace as having seen it & I suspect this vortex as large as Texas will turn out to be a few plastic bottles.

It'll eventually move to Bermuda and disappear.
