The health facists strike again!
There are so many fat folks on the go now , I fear for the pavements of our land.
In the event of a nuclear winter only the obese will survive. They should receive government grants for their pies - for the future of humanity.
Maybe, in his role as public health consultant, Dr Gruer would like to comment on the potential dangers of dustbins being emptied once a fortnight. This issue is going to cause health problems across the board, and will be worst in the poorer areas, where transporting one's refuse to the dump may not be feasible.Back to fly tipping and rats in the streets, I think.
Kids aren't just being killed by their parents, schools must take some responsibility and lead the way as educators. For instance, overweight pupils in a school where I work are served seconds of cake and custard. When she was challenged about this the cook was furious and explained that she had taken two days of her own time in the holidays to train about nutrition and no one had bothered to ask HER what was IN the pudding. She has been informed that sacchrin is a 'healthy' alternative to sugar, obviously as it is deemed 'healthy' she is under the impression that she can serve up as much of it, in stodge, as will fill the stomach of a hungry child. If children were not fed empty calories they would not still feel hungry after a huge meal, they feel hungry because they are consuming shed loads of empty calories and their bodies are crying out for nourishment, to get the nourishment it needs they have to eat more food.By the way, I am not blaming the cook, she is doing her best with what she knows and has been told!
the diets of some people are somewhat disgusting and yet its those very people who come out moaning about their weight. the whole pizza & diet coke approach does not work
"Gruer, director of public health science at NHS Health Scotland, believes men and women are simply eating too much".
Well said. People in the UK seem to think it is their God-given right to never feel in the least bit hungry, or to eat as much as they are physically capable of at meal times.
Why don't people just exercise some self-restraint and perhaps do something different to stimulate themselves rather than gorging themselves to death on food?
I am sick to the core of funding the NHS from my taxes to combat vile conditions associated with obesity. Not only do these people cram as much as they can into their bodies they think that going to the toilet is exercise!
There needs to be some drastic action taken, in particular from the government, and bring in some sort of taxing system on fat and calorie fueled foods.
I meant to finish with "and on that note i am off to eat an apple" but you can imagine millions of others are currently tucking into bags of crisps, sweets and a few litres of oil :)
The persons who are bamboozeled is Gruer and all those nutritionists who would like to push down our throats seeds, nuts, yoghurt, salmon, rice, fibre, and to drink a litre and a halve of water, and exercise daily and etc. We are being verbally cajoled by ignoramuses to eat foods that are known to be harmful to us. The food manufacturers cannot be blamed as they are in the business of profiteering and whatever the public choose to eat they will happily provide. If the public chooses to consume rubbish they will provide it with a little added taste to tempt them to buy more. Your GP is unlikely to know any better than you do as the study of nutrition is not part of their training.
Dieticians today are aware that carbohydrates, in any form, raises blood sugar levels and the continual consumption of carbohydrates is deleterious to our health and may cause diabetes and certainly will causes diabetic related illnesses. Carbohydrates also cause us to feel hungry shortly after having a meal and to want more food. If taken with fat, the body will use the carbohydrates before the fats and turn any spare carbohydrates into bodily fat. Vegetable oils and transfats are harmful at the cellular level of the body.
Modern methods of animal husbandry, argiculture, and food processing, all contribute to our ever increasing health problems and especially those ready-made meals. Microwave heating or cooking changes the protein structure of food which is harmful to the body.
Polyunsaturated fats (and especially vegetable oils) are known potent suppressors of the immune system. The medical profession has been aware of this for decades but did your GP tell you?
Seeds of all kinds contain a protein inhibitor and if my recollection is correct, a poison, but I cannot recall its effect.
What the human body needs, and desparately needs for good and continuing health is what it is composed of, that of red meat and saturated fats. It was this that enabled us as a
Clinical Nutritionists understand that metabolism and Glycaemic Load are more important than calories alone.
Protein and complex carbohydrates are digested more slowly providing sustained energy.
Food could have the same calorific content but if it is more readily converted into sugar in the body and you don't burn it off you are more likely to store it as fat.
Dramatically changing your calorific intake in the way this Dr suggests without considering other factors could slow down your metabolism resulting in faster weight gain in the future.
You are advised to seek the advice of a qualified nutritional therapist rather than listen to scientists working in specific restricted fields who may not fully understand the synergies of food in the human body and the complexities of interdependent biochemical reactions.
A post above correctly identifies a problem with modern methods of animal husbandry.
Use of antibiotics, unatural foods, lack of sunshine, chemical contamination, lack of exercise have all eroded the value of meat and dairy in our diets. More saturated fat, less vitamin d, less vitamin B12, less essential omega 3 fats, less iron, even less protein per pound.
Artificial fortification of milk in particular is a good example of an industry trying to make products more appealling to an increasingly obese customer base.
Novelties such as heat treated, reduced fat, added vitamins, added omega 3 (from fish) , added probiotics, reduced lactose or added enzymes, have reduced cow's milk's long held credibility as a natural and essential part of a balanced diet.
One of the major manufacturers in the Dairy Industry now openly admits on their website that "95% of people of Asian origin. 75% of people of afro carribean origin and 1 in 7 of peoplein the UK are lactose intolerant."
Lactose and other food intolerances can seriously inhibit your ability to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight balance.
The hype touted about the benefit of fish to provide our need for omegas 3, 6, & 9s can be best obtained from genuine free-range hens eggs. While fish is nutritious it also has its downside in that its fat is polyunsaturated. Our bodies need very little of those beneficial omega fats which can also be provided from protein meats and saturated fats. Saturated fat is not harmful to the body and provides the body with its essential hormones that are necessary to good health. Cholesterol is necessary in providing the body with the hormones it requires and will not be harmful unless it is accompanied by carbohydrates in the diet.
Many vegetables, beans, nuts, and some fruits, are known to be goitrogenic foods in that they can knock-out the thyroid!
In addition to carbohydrates raising BS levels with their subsequent deleterious effect, they also cause weight gain, bloating, stomach distension, indigestion, lathargy, prostatis and cystisis, gout, dulls the brain and may possibly accelerate senility and related brain problems so carry on eating those biscuits and cakes, washed down with those sugary soft or fruit drinks and enjoy an old age riddled by arthritis, cancer, cardiac problems and etc!
BSE is less likely to affect anyone whose diet is weighted in favour of meat and saturated fat cooked in dripping or lard. It seems that scrappie has been known to be in the sheep in the Shetland Isles (or was it the Orkneys?) for over 200 years without any cases of BSE related problems being detected. Furthermore, vegetarians have been known to suffer from this problem so the jury is still out as to its cause.
By ramping-down the intake of carbohydrates in the diet and avoiding polyunsaturated (and trans) fats and returning to the more tranditional meals of steaks with layers of fat, and streaky-bacon and eggs for breakfast fried in dripping, then one's weight will reduce (recall Atkin's diet) and be maintained depending on the amount of carbohydrat
Oh dear me Robert (11&14)..I have never heard such rubbish in all my life......Humans ate minimal amounts of meat right up until this century when exploitation of animals meant cheap meat, everyone needs Omega 3 and seeds being poisonous. ha ha ...where do you get your opinions from? Would you care to back up your claims with evidence? Tonga is officially the fattest nation on earth due to their consumption of pig and lamb shanks...fact. I'm not veggie but go to India dn you will meet miliions of fit, healthy people who have never eaten meat
oh, and Atkins died a fat, fat man and poeple are quite rightly giving his 'diet' a very wide berth
Scott, you might feel that I am mistaken but the tide is on the turn and (if you survive long enough) you will hear of it.
Just to provide you with one miniscule point that will benefit you and all other readers and in an effort to prove my knowledge. If, whenever influenza is about or you suffer from it, then go to your supermarket and purchase a block of creamed coconut which costs beween 65 - 85p and take some. Around 12 hours later your flu symptoms will have dispersed.
If you were to add olive leaf extract (another beneficial substance) which is synergistic then the symptoms will disperse quicker. Add also virgin oregano oil, nature's antibotic, then the influenza symptoms will clear up in a few short hours.
This is something that you can try for yourself. The medical profession has known of this cure for decades so why don't you know of it? Could it be in the same way that you do not know of the harmful effects of some foods?
Your information on Atkins is wrong, he did not die a fat man; he died from a fall on an icy NY road.
Incidentally, what I mentioned is not opinion; sorry mate; but keep trying!
Kcal intake deoends on what you wiegh and your hieght, gender, skin surface and age.My BMI is is higher than 1,600 calories (his recomend daily alonce for Femles). Which is the amount of Kcal (energy that your body uses if you were to do nothing allday) So acording to this Dr I'm supose to eat less than My body needs to work with no physical activity (Welldone, if I was to eat that little Kcals I would be classed as Anerixic in about 4-8 months time)This Dr should really spesiafy who he's refering too. As if someone body needs more Kcal to surrive then it's not right to cut therre Kcal intake below this, if you are over-wieght (obese) then it's better to take small steeps to achive long term wieght lose rather than quick fixes they don't work. Even the ling way has relapes in it.
