Our perceptions are shaped by the media. For example, CNN reports missing Americans over seas- one week- both A white and black girl were missig. Which one do you think was blasted on the screen for weeks? Will you grant me that there is a chance that Muslim violence is over reported and white violence is under reported?

Speaking as an American living in Jakarta, the percentage of people here who resort to violence to support Islam is very small. Most people are laid-back about their religion. Now, of course, there is a rising tide of violent Islamic fundamentalism due in no small part to the idiocy of the Bush admin's foreign policy.

It's not a coincidence that perception is fueled by focusing our attention. We are wired that way. In order to survive, our ancestors had to focus on potentila threats in order to protect themselves. The trouble now is that the information is replayed over and over to the drumbeat of DANGER, DANGER, DANGER. It gives us a distorted view of the threat. We must be careful with the information we absorb. We must question what we hear and see in order to keep a balanced view of our own situations and that of the world.

Question: What was Bush's foreign policy on Sept 10th 2001? What was Bush's foreign policy during the USS Cole Bombing or the Embassy bombings or first WTC attacks? Hmmmm. If their was an obvious "rising tide" well before the Bush administration why do you blame the Bush administration for the "rising tide?" Just a thought for those of you who don't.

Wow. How about spending a few years studying Islam and religious conflict before writing down ignorant views for the world to read?

Muslims fight each other and non-Muslims FAR MORE OFTEN than do peoples of other civilizations so perhaps the more apt category for this clash of civilizations to depict this is not Islam Vs. the West but Islam Vs. the Rest as no other civilization is on the Muslim's side other than itself. Islam has developed to be the greatest fascism of our day.

2. In the mid-1990's, roughly HALF the ethnic conflicts in the world involved Muslims fighting each other or non-Muslims.

3. Muslims were responsible for 11 and possibly 12 of 16 major acts of international terrorism between 1983 and 2000.

I read lots of posts, and it's always the same. Those on the left scream about the poor muslims and how much they hate bush. They say things that are supposed to prove their position, but they NEVER include hardcore facts. But they consider outright lies like Dan Rathers' false forgery claim against bush to be a fact even after it has been completely disproven, and Dan Rather is gone.

Those on the right provide documented hardcore facts just about every time. No "well I saw and I say" just verifible information.

Yet the debate continues?

There is no debate.

There are only two kinds of liberals. Ignorant and evil.
