Surely it would make more sense to have ALL children, male and female, vaccinated before they first become sexually active. As seen with MMR and other vaccines, if parents refuse to allow their child to take part in the programme it can leave large parts of the population uncovered, raising the risks for later generations again.

The Catholic Church is NOT being silly. On the contrary, the Catholic Church, together with any other church that cares for the moral well-being of the young of both genders, would rather promote the non-pursuance of sex-related activities outside marriage and, certainly, amongst the very young. There are too many instances of Officialdom opting to deal with these sorts of problems by treating the symptoms rather than the cause.

This vaccine sounds great. It will save lots of girls' lives. Girls are something the Catholic Church doesn't care that much about because it's run by nuns and odd men who are all screwed up about sex.
Surely before a mass vaccination programme is introduced long term data must be collected on the side effects of this vaccination. Most young girls are just entering the start of puberty at age 10. What are the possible long term complications of this vaccination. It is rather niave to think that there are no side effects. By administering this to all young girls are they in effect just being used as guinea pigs? Controversy still reigns over the MMR vaccination and possible links to autism. By introducing this vaccination are we in fact setting another timebomb for public health?
Concerned of Edinburgh is flying a kite. Cervical cancer is killing women and we can prevent it. The vaccine will be subject to the same safeguards as any other. The hang-up here is to do with sex and there's no two ways about it (as there is with sex, concerned). This is not an issue for the Catholic Church or any other church for that matter. This is a medical matter. There is a vaccine available which has been shown to have the potential to save lives. Cervical cancer can happen to any woman who has had sex, including women who have remained totally faithful to one partner all their lives. Surely if there is a safe way of reducing the death rate from this awful disease then we should be encouraging the vaccination programme to go ahead.
As someone growing up the 'Bible Belt' of the States, I believe teaching your children to abstain from sex is the parents responsibility. As to the vaccination, would you have your child not get the polio vaccine? If this will save your child from suffering with cancer, it's STUPID to refrain from participating in the program.
The Catholic church is seemingly increasingly isolated from reality on any matter that involves sexual health. That they would rather that an HIV positive man passed the virus to his wife, rather than use a condom, is an example of just how muddle their thinking is.
And using the MMR controversy as a rhetorical point is a very bad move. One study showed a connection between MMR and autism. It's methods were roundly criticised, and many subsequent studies were carried out, and not one showed any connection. Granted, the reason for the rising rate of autism is still unanswered, but we can be sure it isn't because of MMR.

There IS controversy about vaccines and/or the preservatives in them damaging children's health and being responsible for the huge increase in problems such as autism.
Surely it would be more prudent for the government to spend money on funding their own independent research into whether vaccines, and the mercury they contain, are harmful to children instead of just buying the vaccines and believing what they are told?
Unfortunately Angus learned the hard way what many people do not realise - we live in a consumer society and the sole purpose of pharmaceutical companies is to make a profit. The prime function of government is to balance this by protecting its people.
People have a right to make an educated, informed choice about whether they need or want this vaccine, and that cannot be done at aged 9.
It is not clear whether the 30% of 15 year old teenagers having sex are actually risking HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, pregnancy etc or using condoms, but at least they have a choice.

For any vaccination, or indeed any medicine, deaths have to be so rare as to be almost statistically impossible. I'd be far more concerned about the outbreaks of measles - which should be a disease of the past - which can solely be blamed on parents who aren't inoculating their children.

Oh of course, I'm sure every 9 year old girl has been waiting for just such a vaccine so that she could become sexually active, and the Catholic Church is brilliant to worry that this vaccine will lead to promiscuity! Post 20. It`s amazing how many people I know of who have Autistic children. The majority of these parents, and I`m talking about intelligent professional people, seem to nail their children`s problems to the time of their MMR vaccinations. Still the government won`t have it. This vaccine seems to have been adequately tested and will save girls' lives. Your story is sad in a number of ways but please don't confuse the issue. I can't understand the Christian, or any other, fundamentalists who would refuse to let their children receive this vaccine. You can be sure that these same religious adults would immediately seek the full extent of medical help for any slight problem they themselves might incur, and would no doubt line up for cancer vaccines for other types of cancer should these become available.
My hat is off to the British medical establishment for their principled and courageous move. In the USA, each state would decide whether or not such a vaccine would be given to schoolchildren. You can bet that the Holy Roller and/or Catholic states like Arkansas, Alabama, and Iowa would refuse to do it, thereby endangering the future health of their girl children under the rubric of their sexual mores. Niki in Oregon: the vaccine is indeed available in the USA. But there is no program to vaccinate all schoolgirls for it, because our federal government does not operate that way. Medical and public health issues are the responsibility of the individual states, as per the Constitution, except in rare cases like the Terri Schiavo fiasco, where the federal government was asked to step in.
Jean: as with every other aspect of human life, there is a slight risk associated with any vaccine. One child in a million might become ill and even die from measles vaccine, for example, but is that a reason to withhold it from all the other 999,999 children? Do you refuse to drive because 40,000 people are killed each year on highways in the USA?
Unfortunately it's impossible to prove how many children the vaccine will save. You aren't aware of the moment when you don't contract a disease in the course of your daily life, and it's impossible to monitor.
Now about autism: autism existed long before any vaccines were invented. MMR vaccines have saved tens of thousands, perhaps even millions, of children from either early death or disabling effects of serious diseases both in utero and after birth. You have to balance the potential for good against the probability that a few individuals will experience some effects from the vaccine itself. But these instances are usually so rare as to be inconsequential; it's many, many times more dangerous to take your children out in your automobile than it is to get them vaccinated against any disease.

Hi Maestra#23 I agree, education is a must with anything like this, as well as lots of Proven studies, before they pass it off...I wasn't too sure about the chicken pox vaccine,years ago, but had an in depth discussion about it with the MD.....as far as the MMR/Autism connection, I'm still reading...I was recomended to vaccinate using separated Measles first then when the immune response has recovered the next one....it means more 'shots' but I was told it is less overwhelming to the child's system
Angus, I am truly sorry for your problems. But you can't, on the basis of one incident, determine that no other children shall receive a vaccine that will be harmless to them.
Yes, there are risks associated with vaccines of any kind-- but these risks are in such small percentages as to make them irrelevant to most individuals. I reacted very badly to the smallpox vaccine as a child and was sick for days; but millions of other children did not have the same adverse reaction.
It's much more dangerous to walk down the street.
There was a petting zoo here in Florida a year or so ago, and twelve children came down with E-coli infection, but fortunately none died. Those twelve will have serious health problems for years to come from their encounter with a particularly virulent bacillus. I'm sure their parents, knowing what they know now, would be the first in line for an E-coli vaccine, and would urge other parents to make sure their children get it.

My three kids went through the usual DPT and MMR vaccine schedules. They were cranky and ran slight temperatures for a day after the injection, then it passed and they were fine. I would be very surprised if this were not the norm with childhood innoculations.
Just visit an old graveyard any time and look at the dates on the tombstones, especially the large numbers of children interred there. Then you'll have no doubts as to the beneficial effects of vaccinations against devastating diseases.

In the 1940s and 50s, polio was epidemic in the USA. A generation earlier it was diphtheria and whooping cough in the 1920s and 30s.
As I say: visit a graveyard. Read something besides ignorant scare postings on the internet. People rarely lived past 50 if they were working class in your country, and young children died by the hundreds each year of diphtheria, typhoid, whooping cough (pertussus), pneumonia, or scarlet fever (rubella). Read the works of A.J. Cronin, who was alive at the turn of the 20th century, if you don't believe me. He was a countryman of yours.

as far as the HPV vaccine, I do question any new vaccine, studies etc; It is better to be pro-active....but there are so many other nasty things to catch from casual dalliances, not to mention the girl's self-esteem issue, if you want to get philosophical.

Perhaps the Catholic Church should take a lesson from the late great Pierre Elliot Trudeau and "stay out of the bedrooms of the nation." Researching something for a year or two and calling it safe is asinine - doesn't anyone remember thalidomide? It takes years, maybe even generations, to really understand the effects of many drugs - HRT is now known to cause as many problems as it helps prevent, and yet woman are still being told to take this therapy. I think I would need to see a whole lot more research and follow-up before I was comfortable with this vaccination, even having suffered through the disease it is meant to prevent.
Melanie: since I know the dangers of petting zoos, my instinct would have been to avoid them altogether. But yes: proper sanitation would have prevented some of the cases, perhaps. Still, it's impossible to monitor a small child every second, and even when you're standing right beside them they can put dirty little hands into their mouths.
Then too, some of the bacillus is very likely airborne as the animals urinate and defecate because the young animals themselves are under stress, which damps down their own immune systems and perhaps permits the bacillus to mutate into a more virulent form.
Not being an epidemiologist I can't really say exactly how the disease is contracted; but epidemiologists here concluded that it was the petting zoo that caused the tragedy. As I reported, the children lived, but their lives will not be the same.

In the USA, the HPV vaccine is available and is advertised on television. People should take the time to read up on these things, but very few actually do.
CORRECTION: I erroneously stated that scarlet fever was rubella. It is not. Rubella is a virus and scarlet fever is caused by a bacillus. Sorry; don't know why that happened. Must be the effects of too much sunlight and high heat and humidity.

Knowing what I know today, I'd not only get the HPV vaccine for myself, but also for my daughters. The fact is, very few men are monogamous, whatever their claims. Most of them play around if and when they can, and that is how the virus spreads. Since most boys have had sexual experiences by the time they're 17 years old, you aren't doing your daughters any favors by withholding the vaccine from them. Even the most seemingly strait-laced young men are anything but.

Have you ever seen anybody that have had polio in infancy? I have! Not nice at all. Mumps: deafness, encephalitis, meningitis, male sterility if caught in 13 Yrs or older. Rubella(German measles): encephalitis; in pregnancy, birth defects, stillbirth or miscarriage(happened to my mother in the fifties). Measles: encephalitis(one in 1-2000 cases), subacute sclerosing panencephalitis(rarely). Poliomyelitis: permanent weakness i one or more muscles(common), paralysis(about one i a hundred cases), weakness or paralysis of chest muscles(would need aid to breathe normally), Polio can't be cured and there are no drugs that help after onset. Tuberculosis: resistant strains(to antibiotica) ar extant(we get them from russia), loads of problems. Mercury as a preservative in some (dead) vaccines may soon be phased out. Live vaccines are often more(but not always) effective. Anybody declining to protect their children against ANY of these diseases must be "just plain nuts" as very few complications seems to be common. I do have a oversensitivity reaction to the tuberculine test but thats not a great problem as it just makes me sick a couple of hours, thats all. Protect your children or you may help too spread these diseases to others. If the percentage of protected children gets to low, let's say 85% or less; that's what's going to happen... Having spent 8 years in Canada, 1975 -1983, I am flabbergasted at anyone calling Pierre Elliot Treudeau as "GREAT" as Catherine from Winnipeg has posted. I'm no fan of Big Pharma, but that the vaccine is some kind of conspiracy is a bit of a stretch.
My major gripe with Big Pharma is their licensing agreements with other countries, for instance Canada, so that drugs there are half or less than they are here. And, Big Pharma gives away medicines to countries in Africa, and then pats itself on the back for its charity.
So in effect, Americans are subsidizing who knows how many other countries who can get the same medicines at a much reduced price than we pay here, even adjusting for income per capital and the monetary exchange rate. This is a long-established system of ensuring Big Pharma that it will have plenty of dollars to conduct its R&D, while it can simultaneously point to large sales abroad alongside its charitable works.
I think Americans should not have to pay more for medicines than Canadians, Britons, or anyone else in the world. We get just as sick as anyone else, and most people who live here are far from being millionnaires.
Meanwhile, go get the HPV vaccine if you're a female aged 11 to 30. You will need it.
I have no children--thank God--but I do know that from people I work with that if their children are not fully immunized before they start kindergarten in public schools they are NOT allowed to attend. So it doesn't matter whether or not you object to the vaccine or not, unless you want to homeschool your kid here, they have to get the shots, no exceptions not even for religious reasons. There was a case at the beginning of the year closer to St. Louis where the measles were running rampant and three or four teenagers who had not been vaccinated when they were little for religious reasons were turned away when they came to school because they MIGHT catch the disease and spread it around. They couldn't go back to school for two weeks. I remember getting all those damnable shots and the sugar cubes--tried to get that one twice--when I was a kid at school and it was free or fairly cheap at the time. Handed out like candy and you found out precisely how MACHO the boys in the class were when they blubbered like babies cause they had to get poked.
The point is the vaccine is to help females--boys don't get cervical cancer cause they don't HAVE a cervix--so giving the vaccine to a boy would be rather stupid unless he plans on turning into a female later on. But strangely enough when it comes to women's health issues all of a sudden the church is up in arms. Why doesn't the church pitch a fit about all the ads for Viagara or preventative treatments for testicular or prostate cancer? Why, because it's a man's job to go around overpopulating the planet but a woman's job is to keep her mouth shut and take it.

I wish that the vaccine would bew made avbailable to those of us in the US> However, the Catholic church, along with a lot of the fundamentalist churches (especially in the south) will do anything they can to prevent it. I grew up in the fifties and remember school mates getting polio - BEFORE the vaccine was discovered by Dr. Salk. During those days, we weren't allowed to use swimming pools, etc. When the vaccine came along, we kids were finally given a more "normal" life. Thank God for the polio vaccine. There are always two sides to any issue. If you are a parent, take the time to research the origin and history and effectiveness of vaccinations BEFORE you decide either way whether or not you will vaccinate. There is a ton of information out there so there is no excuse for being uninformed. Don't just accept the party line as complete truth. The children belong to YOU and YOU are the one that, in the end, will have to deal with your decision.

The Age of Autism: The Amish anomaly
Where are the autistic Amish? Here in Lancaster County, heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, there should be well over 100 with some form of the disorder.
I have come here to find them, but so far my mission has failed, and the very few I have identified raise some very interesting questions about some widely held views on autism.
The mainstream scientific consensus says autism is a complex genetic disorder, one that has been around for millennia at roughly the same prevalence. That prevalence is now considered to be 1 in every 166 children born in the United States.
Applying that model to Lancaster County, there ought to be 130 Amish men, women and children here with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Well over 100, in rough terms.
Typically, half would harbor milder variants such as Asperger's Disorder or the catch-all Pervasive Development Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified -- PDD-NOS for short.
So let's drop those from our calculation, even though "mild" is a relative term when it comes to autism.
That means upwards of 50 Amish people of all ages should be living in Lancaster County with full-syndrome autism, the "classic autism" first described in 1943 by child psychiatrist Leo Kanner at Johns Hopkins University. The full-syndrome disorder is hard to miss, characterized by "markedly abnormal or impaired development in social interaction and communication and a markedly restricted repertoire of activities and interests," according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
Why bother looking for them among the Amish? Because they could hold clues to the cause of autism.

Surprising, but no one seems to have looked.
Of course, the Amish world is insular by nature; finding a small subset of Amish is a challenge by definition. Many Amish, particularly Old Order, ride horse-and-buggies, eschew electricity, do not attend public school, will not pose for pictures and do not chat casually with the "English," as they warily call the non-Amish.
Still, some Amish today interact with the outside world in many ways. Some drive, use phones, see doctors and send out Christmas cards with family photos. They all still refer to themselves as "Plain," but the definition of that word varies quite a bit.
So far, from sources inside and outside the Amish community, I have identified three Amish residents of Lancaster County who apparently have full-syndrome autism, all of them children.
A local woman told me there is one classroom with about 30 "special-needs" Amish children. In that classroom, there is one autistic Amish child.
Another autistic Amish child does not go to school.
The third is that woman's pre-school-age daughter.
If there were more, she said, she would know it.
What I learned about those children is the subject of the next column.

Unfortunately our autistic daughter -- who's doing very well, she's been diagnosed with very, very severe autism -- is adopted from China, and so she would have had all her vaccines in China before we got her, and then she had most of her vaccines given to her in the United States before we got her.
"So we're probably not the pure case you're looking for."
Maybe not, but it was stunning that Julia Inion, the first autistic Amish person I could find, turned out to be adopted -- from another country, no less. It also was surprising that Stacey-jean launched unbidden into vaccines, because the Amish have a religious exemption from vaccination and presumably would not have given it much thought.
She said a minority of Amish families do, in fact, vaccinate their children these days, partly at the urging of public health officials.
"Almost every Amish family I know has had somebody from the health department knock on our door and try to convince us to get vaccines for our children," she said. "The younger Amish more and more are getting vaccines. It's a minority of children who vaccinate, but that is changing now."
Did she know of any other autistic Amish? Two more children, she said.
"One of them, we're very certain it was a vaccine reaction, even though the government would not agree with that."
Federal health officials have said there is no association between vaccinations and autism or learning disabilities.
"The other one I'm not sure if this child was vaccinated or not," she added.
During my visit to their home, I asked Stacey-jean to explain why she attributed the first case to vaccines.
"There's one family that we know, their daughter had a vaccine reaction and is now autistic. She was walking and functioning and a happy bright child, and 24 hours after she had her vaccine, her legs went limp and she had a typical high-pitched screa

The officials said they simply were erring on the side of caution, and that all evidence favors rejection of any link between Autism Spectrum Disorders and thimerosal, or vaccines themselves.
Julia's vaccinations in China -- all given in one day at about age 15 months -- may well have contained thimerosal; the United States had stopped using it by the time she was born, but other countries with millions to vaccinate had not.
Stacey-jean said photographs of Julia taken in China before she was vaccinated showed a smiling alert child looking squarely at the camera. Her original adoptive family in the United States, overwhelmed trying to cope with an autistic child, gave Julia up for re-adoption. The Inions took her in knowing her diagnosis of severe autism.
I tried hard -- and am still trying -- to find people who know about other autistic Amish. Of the local health and social service agency personnel in Lancaster, some said they dealt with Amish people with disabilities, such as mental retardation, but none recalled seeing an autistic Amish.
Still, I could be trapped in a feedback loop: The Amish I am likeliest to know about -- because they have the most contact with the outside world -- also are likeliest to adopt a special-needs child such as Julia from outside the community, and likeliest to have their children vaccinated.
Another qualifier: The Inions are converts to the Amish-Mennonite religion (Brent is an Asian-American). They simply might not know about any number of autistic Amish sheltered quietly with their families for decades.
It also is possible the isolated Amish gene pool might confer some kind of immunity to autism -- which might be a useful topic for research.
Whatever the case, Stacey-jean thinks the autistic Amish are nowhere to be found.

There is a book called The Vaccination Bible. You can get it from Amazon. Until you have read it, you shouldn't feel educated enough on the vaccination debate to pass comment here. In short, although Angus is ranting hysterically, he does have a point (and every right to be angry.) Vaccines are not tested for safety or efficacy amongst the agegroups which they are used. Herd immunity is a myth. Measles, german measles, mumps and chickenpox are mild childhood diseases in healthy chilldren who live in clean houses and have access to fresh food and water. Vaccines often don't work, hence the need for boosters. They don't protect against all the strains of the disease. Immunity wears off after a few years. So what is happening now is that teenagers and adults are getting these diseases and the effects are much worse than if they had them when they were children. Most of these diseases have not, in fact, disappeared due to mass vaccination, they are either misdiagnosed as "just a virus" (GPs believe children can no longer get measles, so have no idea what they are looking for) or the names of the diseases have been changed (e.g. polio has been renamed aseptic meningitis and there are still as many cases.) Finally, most of these diseases come in cycles (usually about 20 years) – has anyone spotted that it's about 20 years since MMR etc started and the government keeps panicking that there will be an outbreak of measles or mumps any day. And has anyone spotted that these outbreaks usually occur amongst vaccinated children!
Anyway, what has this to do with the HPV vaccine? It's yet more chemicals we are being persuaded to pump into our children's bodies for the profit of large companies. I plan to teach (and already am) my 4 daughters and my son about healthy living and sex education. Poor sex education is a real problem in schools - ignorance has led us in the UK to the highest levels of STDs and teenage pregnancies. The safe sex message has been lost -
Read the book Health Myths Exposed by Shane Ellison and also go onto the Nexus magazine website and check an article about vaccines. Both of these are written by scientists with experience in the field, and are, I feel very openly written. neither of these authors stands to make big bucks, like the pharma industry are. these vaccines carry potent substances, they have been known to have lead and mercury in them as well as animal diseases, as they are derived from animals in some cases. I dangers are great snd the benefits are virtually nil. I would never have subject my children to them had I known then what I know now. Sudden infant cot death syndrome is strongly correlated with children who were vaccinated and occurs within days of recieving the vaccine. To prevent a scare and sudden loss of profits, these correlations are not widely known. They want us to keep taking the vaccines, and keeping big business going. Also please note that an eminent doctor from one of the big London hospital was sacked when he made similar observations between the increasing numbers of children who suffer from autism and have recieved the triple vaccination. This very contraversial vaccination would have created major losses of profits for the drug companies if this had been published. the thing was, as usual, swept under the carpet. Safe sex is the only answer. Please do not subject your children to more chemicals and big profits for the drug companies. No one tells us that cancer, aids, diabetes and heart disease are preventable or curable, if we only take responsibility for what we put into our bodies. Sometimes its just basic ignorance as in the case of myself. I simply didn't know. Good fats (essential oils like cold pressed olive oil and so on, omega 3s and high dose vitamin c are some of the answers and a basically good healthy diet. Diane (post 14), most of what you say is reasonable, but I have to point out that our government are NOT concerned about the health of citizens, or the NHS would NOT be run or down graded the way it has (despite the flinging of cash at it). Our government are people who need money to go to the pols. Who funds that? Yes! You guessed that it is big business. We are not told of all the benefactors to their manifestos before they come to power. look at the cash for peerages scandal that is yet to be investigated properly and brought to the full attention of the public. Meantime, standardised prescribing protocols initiated from government offices (nanny knows better than the experts) and big pharma funded (therefore bised by the profiteers) research tells us this is how it should be. And why is the NHS being squeezed financially? Ask them what percentage of costs are for prescription drugs. And GPs earning £100,000.00 + in their salaries to comply and what you get for that is a 5 minute consultation (10 if your lucky) and in that time they can examine, diagnose and treat you or refer you on to a specialist who earns less. And this is what the government calls value for money. I would rather have a 30-60 minute consultation with someone who was hollistically interested in me and pay the going rate. May I remind everyone who has posted to this set of comments, both pro- and anti-vaccination, that that decision is totally up to the family/parents/care-givers, except in the case of those vaccines required by law here in the States before entry into a public school setting as a grade school student. Personally, I am in favour of the vaccines, as they have prevented my catching some specific diseases, and, with both hips having been replaced, due to very-early onset osteoarthiritis, being exposed to those diseases is even more dangerous to me than to someone my age (48), who has not had to have hip-replacement surgery.

If the vaccine will keep women later on in life from developing cervical cancer, why shouldn't it be distributed. As for you Angus, I can understand your sadness at having a boy with a problem but maybe it wasn't the vaccine. Millions and millions of kids have the MMR vaccine, I did, my kids did and we're all fine. It's like a kid being allergic to bee stings, you don't know it until you get stung. You can't blame the bee if the kid is allergic so it is with vaccines, there will be some who may be sensitive to it and suffer from it but that doesn't mean the vaccine is necessarily the villan, maybe the kids genetic make up is off somewhere and that just triggered it like a bee sting to an allergic child. Can anyone really say that the guys in the lab are actually sitting around saying things like, "What can we add to this vaccine to make kids sick" I don't think so. I think they probably take as many precautions as possible and in the long run the vaccines do more good than harm and save more lives than not. My dad had polio and if not for the polio vaccine he'd have been dead by age 10. I have a problem with pheumonia and until the vaccine became available I had pheumonia at least once a year, sometimes more than once. Since having the vaccine I haven't had it and my lungs are finally getting the opportunity to become stronger which will give me a greater chance of surviving longer. Taking a vaccine is an individual matter and should be left to the individual to make the decision to take it or not.
I'm with you Phil. Too often these days irresponsible parents leave their kids to be raised by school teachers and other's. If decent morals aren't being taught in the home where are the kids learning it? Probably no where because it's more the norm to have sex than to remain virtuous. Too many parents these days need a good swift kick in the butt. Whether they like it or not they took on the responsibility of possibly ending up a parent the minute they consented to sex, they should be living up to it's expectations. Kids don't know how to handle steamy situations, they're not equipped to be strong enough to stop when things heat up. If they learn from the very beginning that it's a good thing to wait for the right person then when the situation arises they'll be better equipped to say no. We can all see with our own eyes that vaccination has reduced polio, measles, whooping cough etc. It obviously works.
We also know that there has been a rise in problems such as autism, not quite as visual a disease as polio, but it is in epidemic proportions just the same.
Some people say this is due to the effects of the preservatives (mercury) in vaccines, possibly not the vaccines themselves. Governments have agreed, and have asked the pharma companies to reduce the amount of mercury in the vaccines.
So you can be against the vaccines, but not against vaccination. Research has to be done INDEPENDENTLY on how to eliminate mercury from vaccines. Perhaps modern methods of freezing might work, or maybe mercury is cheaper.

I would think that any vaccine that would prevent a cancer would out weigh and be a good thing then the idea that it gives kids the permission to have sexual relations. If parents have a open relationship with their children then the idea of sexual activity wouldnt be a worry for those parents. Thank God, someone has found a vaccine for this deadly disease that caused me at the age of 25 to have a hysterectomy. I have had only one partner my entire 66 years on this earth. It was discovered by routine Pap smears, and the Dr. treated the virus then with a type of silver tincture to try and cure it, because of my young age, but did still needed the major surgery as it had spread to my uterus.I would like to know if there is a test that can be taken, to see who (especially the men), carrying this virus.

Re post 88Hi DianeUnfortunately vaccination has not reduced or eliminated these diseases. A better diet, clean water and improved sanitation has. Also, as I said in my post above GPs commonly misdiagnose, the names of the diseases have been changed in an attempt to hid the true numbers and these diseases go in cycles. I strongly agree with the comment above that it's a personal choice (at least in the UK), one that every parent has to make themselves regarding their own children. The problem is that to make a choice you need to be informed and parents in this country are not given unbiased information about vaccination, so many make their choice based on the rubbish fed to them by the government/drug manufactureres.I find it appalling that the USA make vaccination compulsary and very telling that because they do they are also obliged to have a compensatory programme for vaccine damaged children. Seems like some people (Comment 98) would be quite happy to push animals aside and do all of that is described in public and think that it is OK. Just like human intelligence lifts us out of the animal kingdom, so human behaviour determines where one is in the social order. The simplest of men/women who behave responsibly are high in the social order. I have been blessed with a loving family and took a real interest in guiding my family to make their own informed decisions which...surprise, surprise doesn't find them doing the things you seem to enjoy. MERCK'S GARDASIL VACCINE NOT PROVEN SAFE FOR LITTLE GIRLSNational Vaccine Information Center Criticizes FDA for Fast Tracking Licensure
Washington, D.C. - The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is calling on the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to just say "no" on June 29 to recommending "universal use" of Merck's Gardasil vaccine in all pre-adolescent girls. NVIC maintains that Merck's clinical trials did not prove the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine designed to prevent cervical cancer and genital warts is safe to give to young girls.
"Merck and the FDA have not been completely honest with the people about the pre-licensure clinical trials," said NVIC president Barbara Loe Fisher. "Merck's pre and post-licensure marketing strategy has positioned mass use of this vaccine by pre-teens as a morality play in order to avoid talking about the flawed science they used to get it licensed. This is not just about teenagers having sex, it is also about whether Gardasil has been proven safe and effective for little girls."
The FDA allowed Merck to use a potentially reactive aluminum containing placebo as a control for most trial participants, rather than a non-reactive saline solution placebo.[1] A reactive placebo can artificially increase the appearance of safety of an experimental drug or vaccine in a clinical trial. Gardasil contains 225 mcg of aluminum and, although aluminum adjuvants have been used in vaccines for decades, they were never tested for safety in clinical trials. Merck and the FDA did not disclose how much aluminum was in the placebo.[2]
Animal and human studies have shown that aluminum can cause nerve cell death [3] and that vaccine aluminum adjuvants can allow aluminum to enter the brain, [4 5] as well as cause inflammation at the injection site leading to chronic joint and muscle pain and fatigue. For example, if there were less than 1,000 little girls actually injected with three doses of Gardasil, it is important to know how many had serious adverse events and how long they were followed for chronic health problems, such as juvenile arthritis."
According to the Merck product manufacturer insert, there was 1 case of juvenile arthritis, 2 cases of rheumatoid arthritis, 5 cases of arthritis, and 1 case of reactive arthritis out of 11,813 Gardasil recipients plus 1 case of lupus and 2 cases of arthritis out of 9,701 participants primarily receiving an aluminum containing placebo. Clinical trial investigators dismissed most of the 102 Gardasil and placebo associated serious adverse events, including 17 deaths, that occurred in the clinical trials as unrelated.
"There is too little long term safety and efficacy data, especially in young girls, and too little labeling information on contraindications for the CDC to recommend Gardasil for universal use, which is a signal for states to mandate it," said Fisher. "Nobody at Merck, the CDC or FDA know if the injection of Gardasil into all pre-teen girls - especially simultaneously with hepatitis B vaccine - will make some of them more likely to develop arthritis or other inflammatory autoimmune and brain disorders as teenagers and adults. With cervical cancer causing about one percent of all cancer deaths in American women due to routine pap screening, it was inappropriate for the FDA to fast track Gardasil. It is way too early to direct all young girls to get three doses of a vaccine that has not been proven safe or effective in their age group."

I don't know exactly how a woman gets cervical cancer, but wouldn't always using a condom prevent, or reduce the chances of her getting it? That would also prevent her getting any one of the awful sexually transmitted diseases as well, whereas a vaccination would probably only be effective against one of them.
