Good old Waverley!
I think it is fascinating to stand on the walkway and watch the engines.
Its amazing how they spin round and round.
Even before you go down to look at them - everything is spinning round and round too.
With the number of other people who are clearly also seeing things spinning round and round, I wonder how many even reaslised it had run aground!
Monday 24 th. July I had a great sail on the Waverley from Ayr to Girvan and then around the Ailsa Craig ( Paddy's Milestone ) and had a wonderful Fish Supper on board. I am so pleased she was not damaged, she definitely is Scotlands National Treasure. Bill White Ottawa, Canada
I was puzzled by the opening lines of this story -"a paddle steamer that ran aground...."
Does Shan Ross know of many other paddle steamers which sail around the U.K.'s shores ? I think we should be told.
I was on board when the incident happened. The Wavereley didn't "run aground". It bumped the sandbar. The impact wasn't even noticed by most pasengers and it was not strong enough to spill my beer. The story's been blown out of proportion.
