If this incident happened - 'The Times' quotes the MoD as saying they believe his tale to be untrue - then it is clearly an attempt to portray us as inhumane and a ploy to get back into the country.
A quick trawl, plugging his name into Google, convinces me we do not want him back. People often say we should not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, or creed. That is a laudable ideal, but in the case of creed - systems of principles or beliefs - we are wise to make exceptions. Few of us would choose to hobnob with Nazis, and we have seen that racists make bad policemen. In my book, extremists who call "for Muslims to rise up against Westerners" are just as unwelcome.
George, it was nice to see somebody with a bit of sense. The "goody two shoes" of this country tend to forget the big picture and that being the deaths in Lebanon. Great logic Mike! I was supportive of Israel at first but your argument has me convinced that it's all their fault now. Hamas and Hezbollah kidnap Israli soldiers and Israel fights back-but it's Israel's fault! But, after all, Israel is occupying "Palestinian" territory so who can blame the poor Arabs. It doesn't matter that Israel "occupied" the same territory since biblical times, long before there was even a group of people known as Palestinians. Oh, and by the way, did you happen to know that the only place in the Middle East where a "Palestinian" can get citizenship and vote isn't in any of their brother Arabs countries? That's right Mike. It's in "democratic" Israel! If you are ever attacked by someone intent on killing you I would believe you would fight back with all your strength to save your own life. Israel is fighting for a tiny sliver of land and the Arabs and appeasers like you just don't seem to get it. They've given up everything just to try to live peacefully. The Arabs have given nothing and refuse to allow the Jews to live in peace. And still people like you want to find some way to hold Israel at fault. Read a little history and check your facts before making assumptions.

Let me get this into my head... this guy basicly came into the U.K. and decieded to preach for the destruction of Western civilization and it's ideals. Then he flees the country after a terrorist attack on the U.K., though no true indication of any guilt, it does bring up many question. Then after decrying western values for so long he comes once again to the people of the U.K., whom he insult the whole time he was in their lands, and requests protection. Does he really think he can hide under the protection of western ideals, but demand their abolishment too?

Read the book "The Holocaust" by Martin Gilbert and see what he has to say about the conduct of the British to the Jews during WW2. Britain could not possibly have been anti-semitic for 2000 years. Christianity did not arrive in this country until about the 4th century and the majority of the people were pagans and stayed that way for a long time.

I don't know about antisemitism in Britain, but contrary to popular belief, the USA has a very dubious track record on such matters. After all, FDR directly funded Hitler and the Nazis. There has not been a genocide or a civil war in the past 200 years that was not instigated or financed by the USA. More Americans died in automobile accidents than in combat in both world wars. America - specifically the Bush and Kennedy families - financed Hitler. America put Bin Laden in business, and every other genocidal antisemitic terrorist they could. Even now, despite the USA's professed support for Israel, they are financing and arming Israel's enemies - how supportive is that? The problem with the USA is they have only one policy for long-term economic growth, namely: cause trouble everywhere else....
It is seldom that I have read such tosh, this man has rightly been banned from re-entering the UK no more no less,the story is in my opinion that he does not seem to wish to embrace martyrdom preferring to spend time with his family.This will probably be lost on his followers however. I totally support a brave cleric and fully share his indignation. How Britts even dare to preclude his meeting with children to dissuade their fears. I am all for a family reunion and insist that taking cleric's children on board of one of these ships and bringing them to Lebanon to meet their father would be a just and fair endeavor.

I really don't understand the animosity on here between people from the U.S. and the U.K. I, for one, am thrilled that there is one sane country in the EU that understands the world in which we live. Britain has the resolve to stand up to the nutty EU on issues that matter. The comment about speaking German was clearly from someone without a lot of knowledge about WWII. The only reason there was any free Europe left for the U.S. to help save from the Nazis, was that the Brits fought heroically and infinitely longer than they should have had to before we opened our eyes and got involved. Without the strength and resolve of the British people, WWII would have been lost long before we got of our butts to realize the threat to the free world. The bombings that the people of London endured would have shattered the will of many Americans and is something we have been fortunate enough to not have to deal with...so far.
Not to mention...I'm afraid the cleric would have had a different reception had he attemtped to obtain a U.S. visa. If the wrong bleedingheart had received the request, he would have probably landed at Baltimore-Washington by now.

I think most of us in the UK are well aware of the sacrifices made by the generation of Americans who were our allies during WW2. However, please do not generalise with your comment "I just wanted to add that had it not been for America you would all be speaking German." Britain was the only country in Europe that fought back against the might of Nazi Germany. We could comment that America did not enter the war until it was dragged into it, but that would only besmirch the memory of those who fought it. It was in America's interests also, that the Third Reich did not become the only voice in Europe.
There are British servicemen fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan .............. we are doing our bit.... and it is not Tony Blair's blood that is being spilled. Try living here or visiting and talking to British people before you attack us. The headlines of newspapers do not reflect the views of everyone in this country.

Just to add my tuppence worth..........there are a considerable amount of people in Israel who believe that the British are Anti-semitic. Needless, to say, I replied to several comments of this nature on an Israeli website and that reply being:
Yes there are anti-semitics in the UK but the vast majority of this country are not. I feel sad for the deaths in Lebanon but until this country is ruled by terrorism and a Government who has not deployed it's army to eradicate it..........then I do thoroughly believe that Israel has every right to defend itself against terrorism

We all tend to forget that it was not just America and the UK that helped to put an end to the last war. Does it really matter who did what? I have studied the history of anti-semitism in the world it's origins and it's effect on the present day Israeli psyche. This has formed their determination that Israel will exist as a nation and a refuge for world Jewry.

Isn't it wonderful to live in democracies where we are at liberty to access uncensored information and contribute towards debate. There are many relevant and intelligent points of view here in these postings. There are also very racist, arrongant and ignorant ones, such as Debbie, who, thankfully, has the freedom and the right to enter the message board of a Scottish newspaper and impose her arrogant, pompous and uninformed view of history upon our nation. That's fair enough... It's what democracy is about. Being free to air your views and have your opinions voiced, regardless of how stupid they are. Other nations througout the world would no doubt be grateful for the opportunity to debate issues without fear of death or torture.
The belief that Israel is immoral and wrong in their handling of this situation does not constitute an anti-semitic view. it is simply condemnation of a curremt situation where lives are being lost. Anti-semitic? What is anti semitic about that? Stop crying anti semitism because someone disagrees with their policy on mass killing.
