As an Englishman I do not think it is appropriate for the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom should fly one national flag over a “UK building”. Having been educated in Scotland I would have thought Mr Blair might have been more sensitive towards the component nations – particularly so with such are large contingent of Scots in the cabinet. I dare say with his falling popularity he thought it would improve his image.

Oh come on...lighten up! Maybe this will begin a tradition of flying various UK flags @ #10 depending on what teams are represented at World Cup. Maybe, next World Cup it will be Scotland!

As a Scot working abroad,I thought that I might escape the Triumphalism of 1966,and the equally ridiculous expectations for 2006.How disappointing then,to be confronted by all the same old mass hysteria, which seems to accompany England and it's media during any tournament,in any sport, anywhere in the world. This attitude is exemplified by the FA,who have already booked a victory parade and invited the Queen.(no mention of Wembley there then!)No other Nation of comparable size, has England's ability to put their foot in it, react so badly when things dont go their way,and glorify past achievements for so long. And they wonder why we don't support them!

What a fuss over nothing. The Scots seem to be making a bigger deal over England's World Cup issues than the English! Oh, and William - being English, I have NEVER wondered why you don't support the English team. Whatever made you think we care?

Why would anyone be proud to see the union flag. Do ye know what it represents? Opression, pillage and murder of people from other countries ye tried to collonise. The union jack makes me sick personally.

Has Downing Street ever flown Irish, Welsh, or Scottish flags on the days tha those countries play international matches? The answer tells you everything - that this is a Home-Counties-England-centric Government

Oh, for pity's sake. I agree entirely with George above: you guys have GOT to lighten up and enjoy the sports event, and celebrate England's participation, and quit your everlasting bellyaching. For God's sake....what a nation of cranks Britain is, if you're to believe the ridiculous comments on these websites.
Why on earth *shouldn't* the Prime Minister of Britain enjoy these games in Germany? Why not show a little spirit for the team at play?
Sheesh. Give it a rest, you crankers.
