MANY fashion observers would describe her sense of style as more diabolical than divine, but that has not stopped Victoria Beckham from issuing her own Ten Commandments on how to dress.
While the original Ten Commandments concerned themselves with matters such as honouring thy father and mother, Mrs Beckham has given them a stylish twist, so it is now acceptable to covet not thy neighbour's wife, but thy neighbour's wife's fabulous
Alexander McQueen dress.

Included in Mrs Beckham's Ten Commandments, handed down from on high to Glamour magazine, are the instructions that thou shalt not leave the house without designer sunglasses; thou shalt have no other fashion god other than Audrey Hepburn; and thou shall invest in timeless classics such as boots by Vivienne Westwood.

Curiously, at no point does Mrs Beckham explain how to dress like Woody, the cowboy from Toy Story, Arthur Daley, the loveable crook from Minder, or a Chanel-clad ski bunny who cannot actually ski - all unique looks with which she has entertained the readers of tabloid magazines over the years.

Last year Mrs Beckham was mocked by fashion commentators for arriving at a restaurant wearing leather cowboy chaps over her jeans, and a poncho.

In 2005 she attended the Milan fashion show wearing a flat cap and outsize sunglasses, and last winter appeared on the slopes in £5,000 of Chanel ski gear, but barely visited the slopes.

Despite such social faux pas, Mrs Beckham is beloved by designers such as Roberto Cavalli, who last month invited her backstage during his fashion show in Milan.

She has also developed her own fashion line for Rock and Republic, called "VB Rocks". The wife of footballer David Beckham is understood to be working on a children's and menswear line to debut this spring and autumn.

In the magazine article, Mrs Beckham, claims to have "fat" days, just like many women. "When you're having a bloated day, always have some emergency figure flatterers," she says.

"Last season I invested in some of Stella McCartney's jumper dresses, which are a godsend for when you're not feeling particularly great about yourself."

However, the former Spice girl also revealed that she wears children's clothes and likes to shop in Japan "because they make everything in tiny sizes".

The 31-year-old, who once joked that her husband wore her pants, said she did not wear matching bras and pants.

"Good underwear is obviously a real wardrobe staple, but I think you're either a girl who always wears a matching bra and knicker set or you're not. I'd say I fall into the latter category," she wrote.

Flashing too much flesh is a style mistake, warns Mrs Beckham: "Don't let it all hang out. It's much sexier to leave a little to the imagination."

In the article she praises designers such as Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Dolce and Gabbana and Christian Dior. But she also says that she shops in high street chain Gap - albeit the children's section.

"I like buying jumpers from Gap Kids and cutting them up because they're so fitted and can look really cool and Seventies-inspired," she says. "I also wear their T-shirts inside out with a pair of my jeans, and a fabulous pair of sunglasses. For me that's a look that just can't go wrong."

Style tips in stone

Rule 1 - Visualise Your Overall Look: "Visualise the overall look, then pull the pieces together."

Rule 2 - Shop The World: "Clothes from different countries help to put an individual stamp on your style."

Rule 3 - Borrow From Another Era: "Take inspiration from another decade. Alexander McQueen's vintage-style clothes are beautiful."

Rule 4 - Invest In Timeless Classics: "Be strategic - invest in clothes you can wear from season to season."

Rule 5 - Find Your Own Fashion Fail-Safe: "On a bloated day, always have some emergency figure flatterers."

Rule 6 - Accessories Are The Bare Necessities: "I never leave the house without sunnies."

Rule 7 - Dress From The Inside Out: "Good underwear is a real staple."

Rule 8 - Be Brave And Customise: "I like buying jumpers from Gap Kids and cutting them up."

Rule 9 - Trust In A Few Faithful Opinions: "I still listen to my mum."

Rule 10 - It's Fun To Experiment, But Follow Some Classic Style Must-Dos: "Don't let it all hang out; leave a little to the imagination."
