THE International Criminal Court in The Hague took custody yesterday of its highest-profile suspect to date – the Congolese former rebel warlord and vice-president Jean-Pierre Bemba, who was arrested in Belgium in May.
He is accused of leading a campaign of torture and rape in the Central African Republic in 2002 and 2003. Prosecutors pledged justice for the victims of "massive sexual violence".
