Swiss to vote on minaret building

SWITZERLAND will hold a nationwide referendum on whether to ban the construction of minarets, from which Muslims issue the call to prayer.
Nationalists have collected enough signatures to force a vote on the ban. The Swiss People's Party and the fringe Federal Democratic Union say they are acting to fight the political spread of Islam.

Well, you certainly read all those syndicated stories from "internationalist" reporters who, by definition, must use flags of convenience when applying for their passports - which they require to enable them to spout on paper for a living.

Hi, Fanling, how will you vote?

Surely the point should be that so long as Christians, Jews and so on, are forbidden from celebrating their religions in Saudi Arabia as well as being persecuted in other Islamic countries, they are not allowed to build churches, synagogues or temples, then there should not be mosques and minaretts in Christian countires...

I know that's going to rile some people but Switzerland is normally an incredibly tolerant country and religious freedom is written in the constitution, therefore, there has to be a very strong emotion in this debate.

I'm with the Swiss on this! Islam is foreign to Europe. Mind you, so's Christianity but that took some time to settle in.

Say NO to both the Cross and the Crescent!

Hi Kate. I think my line #1 answers your question. Your second para above pretty well endorses it. If Switzerland takes a strong stance on this issue then maybe, just maybe, the rest of a Europe stupefied by Islamic assertions and demands (and worse) will sit up and take note.
