FRENCH President Nicolas Sarkozy has threatened to boycott the Olympic Games' opening ceremony unless China releases political prisoners and opens a dialogue with the Dalai Lama.
Human Rights Minister Rama Yade set out a list of conditions needed for Sarkozy to attend the ceremony on August 8.

She said the other conditions needed are an end to violence against the local population and light shed on the recent events in Tib
et.

Gordon Brown, meanwhile, again ruled out a boycott of the Beijing Games yesterday. Speaking at the Progressive Governance Conference of international centre left leaders in Watford,

he said: "The Dalai Lama himself has said that he does not want to see a boycott of the Olympics and that is why I have said, as the host country for the 2012 Olympics that is coming up, that I will attend."

Yade said that Sarkozy would make his decision based on how the situation evolves.

In an interview with Le Monde, Yade said: "Three conditions are essential for him to attend: an end to violence against the population and the liberation of political prisoners; light shed on the events in Tibet; and the opening of a dialogue with the Dalai Lama.

"Without human rights, China will never be a true world power. We don't want to give lessons, but we are asking China to respect its commitments."

Sarkozy has said himself that he cannot rule out the possibility he might boycott the opening ceremony if China continues its crackdown in Tibet. Asked whether he supported a boycott, Sarkozy said he could "not close the door to any possibility".

Brown, however, has taken a different line.

He said yesterday: "Any violence in China is to be condemned and I do urge restraint all round," he said.

The news is heartbreaking
China's deadly attack on Tibetans in Tongkor Township (Karze County) in southeastern Tibet on April 3rd came after Chinese authorities detained two monks for possessing photos of the Dalai Lama following a raid by over 3,000-armed police at Tongkor monastery. The police opened fire on the crowd of over 700 people, nearly half of whom were monks, gathered to protest the arrests. All Tibetan areas remain closed off to independent media, but eyewitness reports from all across Tibet describe horrific beatings, suicide attempts by monks locked inside their monasteries, house-to-house searches, and large groups of Tibetans being boarded onto trains at Lhasa's new railway station. As the situation inside Tibet remains critical, several peaceful protests and actions are planned for tomorrow's relay here in London.

Guga II,

It sounds as if we have at least one European leader who is willing to stand up to the gangster Chinese government.

It is time the world woke up to the genocide being perpetrated in Tibet by these Chinese government criminals and their PLA thugs. They are also hell bent on destroying Tibetan culture and religion, "re-educating" the Tibetans (in other words, beating them into submission then brainwashing them; and if that fails, a bullet in the back of the head is the next step).

They even kidnapped, and probably murdered the Panchen Lama, a six year old boy, and replaced him with one of their own.

They have had their PLA thugs dress up in monks robes to incite violence, and to try and discredit the Dalai Lama. They have literally thousands of PLA thugs with guns on the streets in Lhasa and all over Tibet, as well as tanks on the streets. They have banned foreign journalists and the Red Cross, as well as tourists from visiting Tibet. That means they obviously have something to hide.

Any protest is seen as an attack on their gangster government. As is the case with Hu Jai, who was given 3 1/2 years gaol for being a dissident, and his wife and baby put under house arrest. Even their own people are not safe from their thuggery and gangsterism (as was also seen after the protests in Tiananmen Square).

Sport may be important (to some), but surely, in this day and age, it is not as important as human rights, human life and freedom.

Boycott the Gangster Olympics.

Just out of interest, they are conducting a poll in the Sunday Herald on the Olympics, as follows:

Would you support a boycott of the Beijing Olympics?

Yes 65.1%
No 24.0%
Don't Care 10.9%

Journalists are being stopped from entering provinces neighbouring Tibet with an area of the region about twice the size of Mr Sarkozy's France, under lockdown inspite of the central govts agreement to allowo full reporting ahead of the Olympics.

What if the black south africans kill the white south africans in a riot and ask them to go back to whereever they happened to have come from?

By the way, if Sarkozy actually goes to China for Olympics, he is only the guest of the Chinese leaders. He is not welcome to the Chinese people. He better stays where exactly he is.

Tibetan thugs' deeds are Tibetans thugs deeds. Do not confuse those with the actions of PLA.

If they are comitted to violence, at least they should be men enough to take credit for it.

Matt there,

Good for him! A politician with guts!

And the idea of People's Liberation Army members being active in Tibet? Oh, the very thought of it! That's as likely as tanks squishing unarmed students in Beijing, isn't it? Oh. They did, that too, didn't they?

And Hamu, what ARE you twittering on about?

Mashimaro,

China 06/04/2008 18:35:25
Your press lied to you. There was no crackdown. It was the Tibetans who started it, the Tibetans who killed people. You're being suckered.

Matt there, I was twittering on about you or someone like you's ignorence or racist attitude torward China or Chinese people, which is hiding behind the sympathy to the "plight" of Tibetan people. As if it were convincing. What IS your problem? Tibetan thugs didn't kill enough?

Mashimaro, do you think these white people deserve being killed by the black africans?

Stop your rumors about PLA thugs pretending to be Tibetan rioters. To you they maybe look a like but the Tibetans can spot a Han Chinese easily. Only one Tibetan girl was killed as a result of arson. They know who they were going after.

There are a lot of tibetans scatter in the coastal areas of China. I haven't heard any violence toward them. This is pretty one sided racist riot but still has gathered a lot of sympathies from the west. I don't think Tibet is the issue here.

No, I don't think the white farmers deserve to die.

You are a bit confused about the Tibet rumours. I'm the one telling everyone ELSE to realise that they are rumours. I'm the one telling everyone ELSE that the picture is not the way it has been captioned. I'm the one telling everyone else how THEY can tell the picture is not what whackos like Guga are saying.

Dude believe what you like. If you want to know the trush of what went down in this latest Tibetan violence go read...read...read...
The deliberate spreading of lies is not going to help your misguided cause, it's just going to kick it in the nads.
You guys are the ones just repeating the jibberish put out by the Duh Lie lama and his cult of western backed agents. Genocide indeed - how can you have a population which is outstripping the birthrate of every other ethnic group in China, and call that genocide. If China wanted Tibetans gone, believe me, they would be gone.
