HIGH food prices pushed 105 million more people into hunger so far in 2009, the UN World Food Programme head said yesterday, raising the number of undernourished people to more than one billion.
Urging Group of Eight development ministers not to cut aid, Josette Sheeran said the world faced a "human catastrophe" as more people struggle to eat decent meals.

I believe that about 35,000 people starve to death every day or else die from lack of good water & very simple medicines.

Some nations are cut out of the trade patterns, yet they have domestic populations causing the need to import. For a significant portion of the globe hunger & poverty are the norm for at least many in these populations.

The US subsidizes the ethanol production process, for each gallon produced they pay. And the US requires that 10% of the gas sold is in reality ethanol. yet the ethanol production process as practiced in the US uses more fossil fuel to grow the food & turn it into fuel than the new fuel is worth in its end-product. the government pays for both food and energy to be destroyed in the name of creating green jobs. A by-product is that food prices are elevated and some people starve - every day.

but you try finding a US politician who will oppose the ethanol subsidies. democrat & republican both generally support them strongly.

Yes, capitalism in action, commie style.
Last year the cold winter and the rapidly expanding capitalist economy of China caused a huge demand for oil in a limited supply market; the effect caused a shortage of oil and drove the price so high it raised the price of everything connected to transportation costs. Especially hard hit was food...food prices rose the highest in 18 years....
there were food riots.
27 countries needed help from the World food Bank.

And while China was making shiitloads of cash, did it feed it's population or donate $billions or even $millions to feed the starving?
No! It made more $$ in its various weapons-for-cash deals with Darfur- the worst of the worst.....
And so the people of Darfur may have died a terrible death but the Olympics in all their faked imagery were real perty.

Thanks but no thanks on the commie version of capitalism, the world has suffered too much to endure much more

First of all, you apologist for the American empire, China does feed its own people. There are no starving people in China.
Second, sorry we impertinent Chinese had the gall to crash in on the mighty America Inc's markets but you can't keep 1.3 billion people awaiting the crumbs from America's table forever.
Third, China contributed to the world food fund.
Fourth you know full well that the US has been in a perpetual state of war since WWII. If you want to take a look at the misery caused in Somalia and throughout Asia by your empire you would be truely ashamed.

Mashimaro.
God has put America there to keep the dark nations who fly the Red flag from crushing the rest of the world.
The good people in the West are truly thankful for the US.
If not for Amercia China would be raping Australia right now.

#5 You and I both know that America was founded by occultists yet you continue to worship her, what does that say about you, eh?

PS... you might as well lie back and enjoy it

One billion people going hungry is sad indeed especially when you consider how much money is spent on weapons and bombs.

Even if what you posted is true, and it is not. The revenue that was produced for and by ethanol, stays in the United States, and not in some Madrases sponsored by our enemies.
