AS BRITISH losses rise in Afghanistan, it is perhaps fitting that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has himself come under attack, facing some strong criticism about a perceived lack of resources for our troops who are serving in the campaign.
He has received a barrage of criticism from the Conservatives, parliament's defence select committee and now the head of the army, General Sir Richard Dannatt, over the lack of decent equipment, including helicopters, to better protect the troops. Tw...

This useless campaign is now becoming a total disaster for Brown and New Labour.Fifi is quite right.Spending thirty quid for the full article is extortionate. It is more than Brown or Darling is prepared to allocate to equip our troops in the war theatre. Doesn't stop them spending a few bob on their huge days on holidays while the troops face certain hell in Afghanistan. C'est la vie! Bon vacance, mes amis!

I think it is certainly true that more resources would help the military action in the short term, and probably save a few lives in the immediate future, which of course are invaluable to those who's lives would be lost and to their friends and families, but in the long term we are going to lose this faux ''war'' and get kicked out, as all others have been before us. Including ''us'' in the form of the British Empire (twice) and the soviet Union (after a decade).

So whilst I do have aympathy for the serving military and their wholly (in my memery, correct me if I am wrong) unprecedented action in publicly criticising the Government, I can only think that agreeing to their terms will merely prolong the agony.

I think that withdrawal of troops before the elections scheduled for August is impossible, but after that date I would like to see them pulled out as soon as possible.

This is another Vietnam and we should simply not be there, we cannae win. Not with all the helicopters in the world.
