THE founder of the MoonWalk has criticised Edinburgh City Council for forcing the successful charity event to relocate away from the Meadows.
The fundraising walk raised a record-breaking £2.7 million last year for breast cancer research, with more than 12,000 bra-clad walkers taking part.

But the start of the fourth event this summer has been moved to Inverleith Park, due to complaints the Meadows has been overused.

Nina Barough, who has been running MoonWalks around the country for ten years, said she was dismayed by the move. She said she had been forced to delay opening entries for three months, and threatened to move the event away from Edinburgh if the new location was unsuccessful.

She said: "The Meadows was ideal because of its central location and we feel a bit hard done by being told to move when we are a charity."

While the Meadows may be central, Inverleith Park isn't exactly in the highlands.
Things change, get over it.

Inchkeith Island would be ideal.

They ruined that part of The Meadows last year, and it was made worse by Chinese State Circus. It needs a rest and I'm happy to see the Council have at last recognised this.

The organiser's critiscism makes me disiclined to continue my years of support for this event.

The damage caused in previous years has been severe, and it is disingenuous of a a charitable cause to believe they have any right to abuse and cause damage to public amenities.

I would hope that the organiser would issue and apology and a statement of thanks for the continued support of the Council in providing an alternative venue.
